Many years ago, Lam Research embarked on a journey to set up a global center in Bangalore to expand its reach Indian talent pool. Over decade, this center expanded its capability and scope beyond engineering to global manufacturing, supply chain operations and other shared services. One of the major functional groups of this entity is LIGHT (Lam India Global Hardware Technology). In Hardware group, mechanical engineers, simulation analysts, electrical engineers, manufacturing engineers, and engineering support functions work collaboratively to design, develop sub-assemblies and sub-systems for Lam’s next-generation products. LIGHT has completed more than a decade of growth and has emerged as a major new product development and sustaining engineering team for Lam’s global engineering footprint.
The impact you’ll make
There is an opening for the role of Mechanical Lead Engineer. This position is based out of Bangalore, directly reporting to the leader of Clean-Mechanical team in WETS (Wet Equipment Technology Solutions) Group of LIGHT. This individual will provide project ownership in developing new product for Clean Product Line.
Primary Responsibilities
- Design, develop and release product sub-systems through owning high complex projects and working closely with engineering teams in India and the Product Group in Tualatin, USA/ Villach Austria. These projects can originate as part of New Product Development (NPD), Continuous Improvement Program (CIP), Non-Standard Requests (NSR) and Cost Reduction
- Collaborate with cross functional teams and vendors to develop robust design solutions that ensure functionality, safety, manufacturability, serviceability, cost advantage, etc.
- Accountable for delivering on time and with quality as part of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and obtaining necessary approval from stakeholders by following Product Development and Release (PDR) process.
- Provide technical mentorship to junior engineers and New College Graduates.
Eligibility Criteria
- Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering with minimum 8 to 10 years of relevant experience. Or Master’s in Mechanical Engineering with minimum 6 to 8 years of relevant experience.
Mandatory Skills And Experience Required To Perform The Job
- Proficient in concept design and development of complex components/medium-complex sub-systems by following PDR process – generated Engineering Requirement Specification, conducted Design Reviews, performed FMEA, validated designs through Prototyping and Testing and released Engineering Documentation
- Demonstrated strong Problem Solving and Decision-Making ability by applying structured process or tools such as 8Ds, Fishbone, 5 Whys, Pugh matrix, Pareto chart, etc.
- Experience in driving and managing projects in collaboration with CFT (Manufacturing, Supply chain, Electrical/controls engineering and Product safety) for project deliverables
- Expertise in Design for Manufacturability, Assembly, Serviceability, Cost principles, and Engineering Change Management
- Experience in design of Fluidics and Pneumatics systems and selection of OEM components like Fluid system fittings, Valves, Transducers, Pressure Regulators, Sensors, Gauges, etc.

Lam offers a variety of work location models based on the needs of each role. Our hybrid roles combine the benefits of on-site collaboration with colleagues and the flexibility to work remotely and fall into two categories – On-site Flex and Virtual Flex. ‘On-site Flex’ you’ll work 3+ days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, with the opportunity to work remotely for the balance of the week. ‘Virtual Flex’ you’ll work 1-2 days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, and remotely the rest of the time.
