Job Description

The Product Development & Industrial Engineer Assembly is responsible for supporting new product development activities, coordinating with R&D and Tool Room teams, improving assembly processes, reducing cycle times, and enhancing productivity. The role will also support the setup of assembly lines, conduct time studies, eliminate non-value-added activities, and ensure smooth transition from product development to production.

Responsibilities and Scope of Work:

  • Assist in the development of new products in coordination with the Product Development and R&D teams.
  • Participate in new product trials and provide Technical feedback.
  • Handle product functional requirements and translate them into production specifications.
  • Conduct time and motion studies to determine standard cycle times.
  • Identify and eliminate non-value-added (NVA) activities.
  • Implement Lean principles to improve efficiency and reduce waste.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives on the assembly line.
  • Plan and arrange facilities for new assembly lines.
  • Ensure ergonomics and productivity considerations in workstation designs.
  • Coordinate tooling and fixture requirements in collaboration with the Tool Room.
  • Liaise with the R&D and Tool Room teams to facilitate smooth product transition.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams during pilot runs and development phases.
  • Establish standard operating procedures (SOPs) for assembly processes.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of time studies, layout designs, and process flows.
  • Drive cost reduction initiatives through productivity improvement.
  • Provide timely updates and insights to the Assistant Manager – Product Development.
  • Take ownership of assigned development projects and ensure timely execution.

Accountability:

  • Ensure timely execution of product development trials.
  • Maintain accurate and updated time study data.
  • Meet cycle time and productivity improvement targets.
  • Ensure assembly readiness for new product launches.

Deliverables:

  • Time study reports and standard time sheets.
  • Process layouts and assembly line setup plans.
  • Trial reports and validation documentation.
  • SOPs for new and improved assembly processes.
  • Weekly status updates on ongoing development projects.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):

1) New Product Trial Completion

  • Timely execution and successful closure of trials with minimal rework.

2) Cycle Time Reduction

  • % reduction in assembly cycle time through effective time studies and process improvements.

3) Standard Time Accuracy

  • Accuracy of defined standard times vs. actuals in production.

4) NVA Activity Elimination

  • Number of non-value-added activities identified and eliminated.

5) Assembly Line Readiness

  • Completion of assembly line setup before new product launch deadlines.

6) Process Documentation

  • Timely preparation and updating of SOPs, work instructions, and layout documents.
