Manager - Design and Documentation
Position Overview
The Manager of Design Drawing and Documentation oversees the creation, management, and quality control of all design documentation throughout the lifecycle of any facility. This role ensures accurate, compliant, and coordinated drawing sets while interacting with a team of design professionals and maintaining project documentation standards.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Management
- Lead and mentor a team of drafters, designers, and documentation specialists
- Assign project responsibilities and monitor team performance
- Conduct regular team meetings and performance reviews
- Foster professional development and training initiatives
Design Documentation Management
- Undertake and oversee production of architectural, engineering, and construction drawings
- Ensure all drawings comply with industry standards, codes, and client requirements
- Coordinate with architects, engineers, and consultants for integrated design documentation
- Manage drawing and other document revisions, version control, and distribution processes for multiple sites/facilities
Quality Assurance & Standards
- Establish and maintain CAD/BIM standards and templates
- Review and approve all design drawings before release
- Conduct quality checks for accuracy, completeness, and compliance
- Implement continuous improvement processes for documentation workflows
Project Coordination
- Collaborate with project managers, design teams, and external consultants
- Participate in design reviews and coordination meetings
- Ensure timely delivery of drawing packages per project schedules
- Manage drawing submittals and approval processes
Technology & Systems Management
- Oversee CAD/BIM software implementation and maintenance
- Stay current with industry technology trends and software updates
- Manage document management systems and digital filing protocols
- Evaluate and recommend new design tools and technologies
Required Qualifications
Education & Certification
- Bachelors degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or related field
- Professional certification (AIA, PE, or equivalent) preferred
- Advanced knowledge of CAD software (AutoCAD, Revit, etc.)
Experience
- 5-7 years of experience in design documentation and drawing production
- 2-3 years of management or supervisory experience
- Experience with large-scale commercial real estate projects
- Knowledge of building codes, zoning regulations, and construction standards
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in CAD/BIM software (AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, SketchUp, etc.)
- Knowledge of document management systems
- Understanding of construction methods and materials
- Familiarity with project management software
