Mainframe System Programmer

As a Database Administrator, you will be responsible for managing backup and recovery processes and tools. Your expertise in database knowledge, including logical and physical design, will be crucial in troubleshooting database performance issues and query tuning concepts. You will perform data management tasks such as loading, unloading, updating, restoring, and removing data to ensure the accuracy of the database as a reliable data source. Additionally, you will be in charge of database maintenance activities like Adhoc Reorgs, Runstats, and monitoring scheduled maintenance tasks as per the application teams" demands. Monitoring and managing space within the databases, purging obsolete data, and reclaiming space will also be part of your responsibilities. Identifying and troubleshooting high-priority database issues, monitoring database backups, and maintenance jobs while troubleshooting job failures will require your immediate attention. You will be expected to monitor databases for any unusual activities, restrictive states, and periodically check logs for potential issues. Refreshing Dev/Test databases with production backup images as requested and working in a collaborative multi-client environment are essential aspects of this role. Additionally, knowledge of Cobol programming and familiarity with database third-party software tools such as Omegamon, Tmon, BMC Suite, and CA DB2 Toolset is highly advantageous. Off-hours support and participation in an on-call schedule may be required. Your expertise will primarily be focused on platforms like z/OS DB2 and IMS, with a bonus if you have experience with platforms like IDMS, Adabase, Supra, System 2000, and Datacom.,
