Job Objective
To lead the DEBEL Helmet program with end-to-end accountability for design, R&D, electronics integration, mechanical performance, quality compliance, and production readiness of advanced combat helmets. The role emphasizes innovation, integration of electronic sub-systems (sensors, communication, power), and ensuring the helmet solutions meet the operational requirements of armed forces and special units.
Key Responsibility Areas
Strategic Leadership
- Define and execute the DEBEL helmet technology roadmap in alignment with defence program goals.
- Identify global advancements in smart helmet systems (sensors, communication, augmented vision).
- Collaborate across R&D, electronics, mechanical, and procurement teams to deliver cutting-edge solutions.
Product Development & Innovation
- Drive integration of electronics in helmets (communication modules, sensors, battery management, heads-up displays).
- Oversee mechanical design for ergonomics, modularity, durability, and weight optimization.
- Ensure compliance with defence and electronics standards (MIL-STD, EMI/EMC, BIS, NIJ).
- Supervise prototype development, lab/field testing, and system validation.
Operations & Manufacturing
- Support tech-transfer and pilot production readiness.
- Ensure seamless integration of electronic and mechanical components in scalable production.
- Coordinate with vendors for PCB design, wiring harnesses, connectors, and ruggedized components.
Business Development & Client Support
- Support DRDO/armed forces trials and demonstrations.
- Collaborate with sales and program management teams for tenders and technical bids.
- Provide subject matter expertise during technical negotiations.
Compliance & Quality
- Maintain adherence to ISO, BIS, MIL, and relevant defence standards.
- Lead compliance audits and certification processes.
- Establish robust quality and reliability testing for electro-mechanical helmet systems.
Team Management
- Build and lead a cross-functional team of electronics engineers, mechanical designers, and QA specialists.
- Mentor junior engineers in system integration, testing, and validation.
Coordination & Reporting
- Report progress and risks to PE Head and DEBEL project coordinator.
- Develop KPIs and monitor milestones for helmet program delivery.
- Coordinate with Tech-Transfer for smooth mass production.
- Regularly update senior management and defence stakeholders.
Development
- Create training and development plans for team members.
- Continuously evaluate latest advances in soldier-worn electronics and composite integration.
- Attend conferences/seminars on wearable electronics, advanced composites, and defence technologies.

Qualification
Min. qualification required
B.Tech/M.Tech in Electronics Engineering / Mechanical Engineering / Mechatronics or equivalent.
Other desired qualifications
- Specialization in soldier-worn systems, rugged electronics, or protective gear design.
- Prior experience in helmet/electronic system integration.
- Experience in leading cross-functional technical teams.
- Familiarity with defence electronics development lifecycle (TRL, DRDO projects).
Relevant Experience

Knowledge and Skills Required
- Strong knowledge of EMI/EMC, MIL-STD, and rugged electronics design.
- Experience in integration of communication systems, sensors, and power modules.
- Mechanical design experience in ergonomics, composites, and modular protective gear.
- CAD tools (mechanical and electrical design).
- Data analysis, cost estimation, and feasibility study.
- Proven track record in defence program execution and compliance.
