Journal Coordinator/Editorial Manager – Team Lead

Role Summary

Lead a team of Journal Coordinators to run end-to-end scholarly publishing workflows—submissions, peer review, production, and issue release—while upholding editorial ethics, timelines, and author experience. 

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership

• Manage, coach, and allocate work for a 5–10 member coordinator team. 
• Set SOPs, SLAs, and QA checks; run weekly stand-ups and monthly performance reviews. 
• Train new hires on systems, style guides, and publication ethics. 

Editorial Operations

• Oversee submission triage, desk screening, and reviewer/editor assignments. 
• Monitor peer-review turnaround; chase reviewers/editors and remove bottlenecks. 
• Plan issues/special issues with Editors-in-Chief and Guest Editors; maintain publication calendars. 
• Coordinate copyediting, typesetting, proofs, and final sign-off; ensure on-time issue release. 

Reporting & Continuous Improvement

• Track KPIs and produce weekly/monthly dashboards (submission volumes, decision times, acceptance rates, on-time release). 
• Analyze bottlenecks and run process improvements/A-B experiments to reduce TAT. 

Must-Have Qualifications

• 3-5  years

   in academic publishing/journal operations with 

  1+ years

   leading a team. 
• Strong command of peer-review workflows, production stages, and editorial ethics  
• Excellent written communication and stakeholder management. 
• Data comfort: Excel/Google Sheets; basic dashboards (Looker Studio/Power BI) for KPI reporting. 

Education

Bachelor’s/Master’s in Life Sciences, English/Communications, or related field (or equivalent publishing experience).
