SHARP NGO Psychologist Job description Role: Psychologist Location: Dholpur, Rajasthan Duration: 16 months Job Summary: We are looking for a passionate psychologist for an 16-month community-based mental health project in Rajasthan, focused on improving parent-child communication and mental health awareness through culturally sensitive storytelling workshops. The role involves conducting field research, co-developing narratives, facilitating interactive school sessions, and engaging with families through home visits and community events. The position is based in Dholpur and offers a unique opportunity to apply psychological skills in a creative, grassroots mental health project. Organization Description: School Health Annual Report Programme (SHARP) is a non-government organisation that runs scientifically-planned health programmes for school children professionally managed under the guidance of eminent medical experts, sociologists, educationists, psychologists, nutritional specialists and others who have the vision of promoting healthcare of children throughout third world countries. It is one of India’s largest health networks with various projects running all across the country. SHARP NGO was founded in 1999 by Dr. Puran Prakash. It addresses the health concerns of school going children in the country by conducting regular health checkups and health awareness sessions and digitising the health record of each child and making it available online. SHARP has created a panel of network hospitals to which a child is referred in case of ailments. The organisation covers 2.5 million children across 25000 schools in the country Project Description: The current project aims to creatively increase parent-child communication, mental health literacy, and mental health attitudes in children aged 10-15 in districts of Jaipur and Dholpur in Rajasthan. The project aims to use traditional Rajasthani folk storytelling art forms to tell mental health-themed stories to parents and children through workshops in public and private schools. The aim of the workshops is to engage children and parents to understand mental health concepts and promote positive mental health attitudes and family communication about sensitive mental health topics. Roles of the position will include interviewing parents and children to understand their situation and mental health experiences through individual interviews and focus-group discussions at the initial stage. The role will then include working with a team of psychologists to create mental health-themed stories based on the information obtained from the interviews and focus-group discussions. These stories created will be shared with local skilled artisans in Rajasthan to create specific art that resonate with the themes of the stories. These local artworks in the form of crafts will then be taken into the community and used as a medium to spread mental health messages. The role next includes conducting regular interactive workshops in schools with children and parents using the created craftwork as a medium of communication. Workshops will be engaging, including storytelling, interactive activities, and discussions with the audience. The role requires the workshop facilitator to have good communication and presentation skills and lead a workshop with confidence, empathy, and vision to share the mental health messages. The role also includes regular home visits to the families participating in the project to check on their progress and engagement with the project goals. The role also includes conducting surveys and questionnaires with the children and parents at the beginning of the project in the form of pre-intervention assessments and at the end of the project period in the form of post-intervention assessment. The role may also require assistance in facilitating community-wide campaign events and hosting information stalls at the campaign events to promote mental health attitudes, mental health literacy and children’s mental well-being. Responsibilities: Conduct mental health assessments with children and parents (pre- and post-intervention) Lead individual interviews and focus group discussions to understand family mental health experiences Co-create culturally sensitive mental health stories based on field insights Collaborate with artisans to design culturally-relevant crafts Facilitate engaging school workshops using storytelling, activities, and group discussion Conduct regular home visits to track family engagement and provide support Assist in community outreach and mental health awareness events Attend training sessions to enhance workshop delivery skills The project is of 16 months and will require you to be positioned in Dholpur, Rajasthan.
