1. Job Purpose To lead and manage all operational and strategic aspects of iron ore mining, with a strong geological foundation. The role demands specialized expertise in handling the ore such as Banded Hematite Quartzite (BHQ), low-grade iron ore etc., Preparation of the mining plan and execution of the sustainable mining to ensure cost-effective, safe, and compliant production. 2. Key Responsibilities A. Strategic Leadership & Planning Formulate long-term and short-term mining strategies aligned with business goals. Design and implement creative and efficient mining plans with an emphasis on resource optimization. Lead exploration and exploitation strategies. B. Geological Expertise & Resource Evaluation Conduct in-depth geological interpretation using ground mapping, lithology through detailed exploration andgeophysical results. Evaluate mineralization patterns and generate resource models based on drilling and sampling data.Oversee geological modeling and reserve/resource estimation. C. Ground Surveying & Drilling Supervision Monitor ground surveys , including topographical, geological mapping using DGPS/Total Station/Drone Survey. Supervise core drilling operations, core logging and recovery, sample preparation. Analyze drilling data to assess ore body structure, continuity, and quality. D. Mine Development & Operations Oversee end-to-end mining operations including overburden removal, drilling, blasting, iron ore extraction, and transportation. Ensure optimal grade control while dealing with heterogeneous and low-grade ore bodies. Implement cost-effective methods for handling BHQ and other tough formations. E. Statutory Compliance & Safety Ensure full compliance with DGMS regulations, MoEF, IBM, and other statutory bodies. Prepare and submit mining plans/ review / scheme / modification plans and progressive mine closure reports as per statutory norms. Promote a zero-incident culture and ensure adherence to environmental, health, and safety standards. F. Team Management & Stakeholder Engagement Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary team of geologists, surveyors, mining engineers, and site staff. Collaborate with cross-functional departments like environmental, logistics, and finance. Liaise with government bodies and consultants for statutory approvals and inspections. 3. Desired Profile and Skills Proven experience in iron ore mining operations , ideally in both open-cast and underground settings. Strong technical understanding of BHQ, low-grade hematite ore, and complex mineral matrices . Hands-on knowledge of ground mapping tools, AutoCAD, SURPAC, Minex, and GIS software . Skilled in core drilling operations , including exploration planning, drilling supervision, and sampling techniques. Capable of preparing and implementing sustainable, and cost-effective mining plans . Proficient in mine planning, scheduling, resource estimation, and reporting. Strong leadership, decision-making, and crisis management abilities. Excellent communication skills. 4. Preferred Qualifications M.Tech / M.Sc in Geology / Applied Geology or B.E/B.Tech in Mining Engineering from a reputed institute. Certification under Mines Act / First Class Mines Manager Certificate (Iron Ore) is preferred. Familiarity with IBM, MoEF guidelines, and environment clearance processes.
