Hot Copper Forging - Sr. Engineer/Assistant Manager

Job Purpose:

Key Responsibilities:

Production Management:

• Plan and monitor

  daily forging schedules

  to meet production targets.
• Supervise forging operations including

  heating, upsetting, trimming, coining

  , etc.
• Ensure effective utilization of manpower, machines, dies, and raw material.
  

Process & Quality Control:

• Control key process parameters such as

  temperature, pressure, cycle time

  , and tool wear.
• Work closely with the quality team to minimize rejections and meet metallurgical standards.
  
• Troubleshoot process deviations and implement corrective actions.
  

Tool & Die Management:

• Ensure proper usage and maintenance of

  forging dies and fixtures

  .
• Coordinate with tool room and maintenance for die repairs or replacements.
  

Manpower Handling:

• Supervise the team of operators, helpers, and supervisors on the shop floor.
  
• Conduct

  skill gap analysis

  and ensure periodic training on forging safety and practices.
• Maintain discipline, shift management, and team performance.
  

Maintenance & Equipment:

• Coordinate with maintenance for preventive and breakdown servicing of

  forging presses, induction heaters, hammers, and trimming machines

  .
• Ensure equipment uptime and reduce unplanned stoppages.
  

Safety & Compliance:

• Enforce strict adherence to

  safety protocols

  related to hot forging.
• Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments.
  
• Maintain compliance with environmental and statutory regulations.
  

Continuous Improvement:

• Identify opportunities for

  process optimization, scrap reduction

  , and

  cycle time reduction

  .
• Support in implementing

  Lean, 5S, Kaizen, and TPM

  initiatives in the forging unit.

Key Skills & Competencies:

• Strong knowledge of

  hot forging operations

  , especially with

  copper and brass alloys

  .
• Understanding of forging metallurgy, grain structure, and heat treatment impact.
  
• Familiarity with

  press forging, hydraulic/mechanical presses, and die maintenance

  .
• Knowledge of quality tools like

  Pareto, root cause analysis (RCA), and 7QC tools

  .
• Proficiency in

  production planning, shift handling, and safety compliance

  .

Qualifications & Experience:

• Diploma / BE / B.Tech in

  Mechanical / Metallurgy / Production Engineering

• 3 to 8 years

  of hands-on experience in

  hot forging

  , preferably copper or non-ferrous metals
• Experience in managing a forging shop floor as a line leader or shift in-charge is essential.
  

Preferred Tools & Software:

• MS Excel, SAP (PP Module), ERP systems, AutoCAD (for die/tool layouts)
