This position assists in the design, implementation, support, and performance tuning of a global virtual desktop environment. Youll work closely with stakeholders and global partners to ensure successful deployments based on defined requirements. Automation skills are highly desired due to the scale of the environment. As a member of the VDI team, youll help develop and implement operational procedures and standards, partner with OS support teams for future desktop architectures, and provide advanced support for Help Desk technicians and end users.
Responsibilities:
- Scope, design, and implement VMware Horizon-based VDI deployments.
- Develop and maintain automation tooling for VDI deployments, optimizations, and audits.
- Support advanced vSphere and Horizon configurations to meet business requirements.
- Scope, implement, configure, and manage Microsoft Windows 365 Cloud PCs using Intune and Azure.
- Manage deployment policies, user assignments, and device provisioning for scalable Windows 365 rollouts.
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize Cloud PC performance.
- Expert skills in VMware vSphere 8 (other virtualization technologies a plus).
- Install, configure, and manage VMware vSphere 8 ESX servers and virtual machines.
- Hyper-V deployment, management, and log analysis (in-depth knowledge a plus).
- Coordinate with storage admin team on datastore and VM storage issues.
- Deploy virtual servers using templates and cloning.
- Monitor and manage performance of ESX servers and virtual machines.
- Create virtual switches and port groups; configure virtual networking for redundancy, security, and load balancing.
- Implement dashboards and reporting using vROPs, Splunk, or Grafana.
- Windows Server performance checks, troubleshooting, and dump analysis.
- Apply Horizon, VMware, and/or Hyper-V security hardening best practices.
- Good working knowledge of adjacent tools: VCF, vROPs, vRA, NSX, etc.
- Collaborate with cross-functional IT and application teams to resolve large-scale environmental issues.
- Perform periodic performance tuning and KPI reporting.
- Strong communication skills; able to convey complex issues to diverse audiences.
- Proven ability to collaborate with diverse teams across geographies.
- Ability to work within tight deadlines.
- Troubleshoot issues and provide root cause analysis.
- Create, maintain, and document processes and procedures within the global team.
- Server provisioning and lifecycle management.
- Hardware setup, configuration, and upgrades.
- Maintain documentation, change logs, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Preferred Qualifications:
- 5+ years of virtual server administration experience in a large enterprise environment.
- Expert-level knowledge of VMware Horizon or other large-scale VDI platforms.
- VMware vSphere ESX 7.x or higher (other virtualization technologies a plus).
- Good working knowledge of adjacent VMware products (VCF, vROPs, vRA, NSX, etc.).
- Scripting and automation using PowerCLI, Ansible, or other programming languages.
- Windows 11 or Ubuntu guest OS experience a plus.
- Windows Server 2016 & 2019 OS and PowerShell.
- Strong troubleshooting skills in Windows Server 2012, 2016, 2019.
- Hardware experience with Dell, Supermicro, Lenovo servers.
- VMware security hardening best practices.
- Expertise in other vendor solutions such as Citrix or Microsoft Windows365 a plus.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
Minimum Qualifications:
4+ years of IT-related work experience with a Bachelor's degree. OR 6+ years of IT-related work experience without a Bachelors degree.Physical Requirements: Frequently transports and installs equipment up to 20 lbs.
Education:
- Bachelors degree and 5+ years of experience in an IT-related role.
- 7+ years experience in an IT-related role without a bachelors degree.
