Key Responsibilities:

Unix Server & System Administration

• Install, configure, and maintain HP-UX on Itanium hardware platforms and Red Hat Enterprise Linux systems.
• Perform OS patching, kernel upgrades, and performance tuning to maximize system reliability.
• Troubleshoot hardware and OS-level issues on mission-critical servers.
• Support migration planning from HP-UX Itanium to modern Linux platforms where applicable.

Storage & Backup Management

• Administer VxVM (Veritas Volume Manager) on HP-UX and Linux environments.
• Configure and troubleshoot enterprise storage connectivity (SAN/NAS integration with Unix systems).
• Maintain backup processes ensuring recoverability of Unix workloads.

Data Center Operations

• Manage HP Integrity server hardware lifecycle, including firmware updates and decommissioning.
• Collaborate with hardware vendors for Itanium system support and replacement part management.
• Execute racking, cabling, and maintenance procedures adhering to operational standards.

Monitoring & Incident Response

• Monitor system health using various tools including LogicMonitor and scripted solutions
• Investigate alerts and respond to Unix-related incidents in accordance with SLAs.
• Conduct root-cause analysis of recurring HP-UX or RHEL issues and implement long-term fixes.

Documentation & Compliance

• Maintain detailed technical documentation for Unix server builds, configurations, and troubleshooting procedures.
• Follow organizational standards for change control, IT security, and compliance.
• Ensure systems meet audit requirements for regulated industries.

Qualifications:

• Associates or Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
• 5–7+ years of hands-on experience with Unix systems administration (HP-UX and RHEL required).
• Proficiency in HP-UX administration (including Serviceguard clustering and Itanium systems).
• Strong Linux administration skills (RHEL 7/8/9, systemd, SELinux, RPM-based package management).
• Familiarity with virtualization/container platforms (VMware, KVM, or Red Hat OpenShift a plus).
• Scripting expertise in bash, ksh, POSIX, and Python for automation.
• Knowledge of TCP/IP networking, DNS, NTP, LDAP, and common Unix services.
• Experience with patch automation tools such as Red Hat Satellite or Ansible.
• Certifications such as Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) or HP-UX certifications highly desirable.
