Head - Quality Assurance

• Role Summary

Lead and manage the Quality Assurance and Control (QA/QC) function across all phases of the thermal power project, including activities related to Boiler, Turbine-Generator (TG), and Balance of Plant (BOP) systems. Ensure strict compliance with Quality Assurance Plans (QAPs), Manufacturing Quality Plans (MQPs), Field Quality Plans (FQPs), Welding Procedure Specification (WPS) and all statutory/regulatory standards. Close coordination with engineering, manufacturing, vendors and site execution teams. Guide and monitor the extended quality functions of manufacturing teams (across the self-manufacturing setup(s) and those of external OEMs/vendors) and lead site-level QA/QC operations (incl. in-house & third-party resources) to ensure timely delivery with zero quality issues. Acquainted with Metallurgies utilized in Ultra-Supercritical Technology.

• Key Responsibilities:

• Quality Planning & Strategy

• Lead the creation, review and approval of QAPs, MQPs, FQPs and WPS for Boiler, TG and BOP packages.
• Define the overall quality roadmap aligned with project milestones and contractual requirements.
• Establish comprehensive quality assurance and inspection mechanisms for entire project lifecycle.

• Vendor & Manufacturing Quality Oversight

• Review and approve vendors quality processes, inspection plans and qualification methods.
• Oversee QA activities for all major equipment manufacturers, ensuring compliance to QAPs and technical specifications.
• Supervise the manufacturing quality teams functionally, providing guidance, governance and escalation support.

• Site Quality Assurance & Control

• Implement and manage QA/QC systems at site to ensure conformance during erection, testing, and commissioning phases.
• Lead site audits, quality walkdowns and proactive NCR (Non-Conformance Report) management and closure.
• Coordinate with site construction teams and third-party agencies for inspections & certifications.

• Coordination with Engineering & Design

• Interface with design/engineering teams to integrate quality into designs and deliverables.
• Drive Design for Quality (DfQ) practices and timely resolution of quality-related engineering issues.

• Quality Audits & Compliance

• Conduct internal and external audits across vendors, site and internal departments to verify compliance with quality plans and ISO/IS/IBR standards.
• Ensure closure of observations and continual improvement of systems and processes.

• Team & Stakeholder Management

• Build and lead a high-performing QA/QC team for all projects (including in-house and 3rd-party inspectors).
• Provide leadership and mentoring to quality professionals across locations.
• Engage proactively with project stakeholders, including clients and consultants, on all quality matters.

• Documentation & Reporting

• Ensure proper documentation and traceability of all quality records.
• Generate periodic quality reports and dashboards for senior management review.
• Track key quality KPIs such as NCRs, inspection compliance, test failures & rework/rejection rates.
• Enable digitalization of processes to ensure transparency in NCR tracking and issue resolution.

• Experience & Expertise:

• Expertise in Creation and Management of Quality Assurance & Control functions for large-scale Supercritical and Ultra-supercritical Thermal Power Projects along-with in-depth understanding of Quality Management of Manufacturing functions and for supply chain.

• Proven experience overseeing quality across Boiler (Pressure Parts, Structural, Auxiliaries), Turbine-Generator (Stator, Rotor, Auxiliaries) and Balance of Plant (BOP) systems.

• Strong track record of developing, implementing, and managing QAPs, FQPs, and inspection regimes across engineering, manufacturing, and site execution phases.

• Hands-on experience with vendor qualification, expediting, third-party inspections, and Factory Acceptance Tests.

• Acquainted with Metallurgies utilized in Ultra-Supercritical Technology.

• Familiarity with national and international codes and standards (e.g., IBR, ASME, ISO, IEC, IS standards, etc.).

• Experience in handling multi-agency interface—including EPC contractors, OEMs, third-party inspection agencies, consultants, and internal QA/QC teams.

• Exposure to Quality function at Field level.

• Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams, resolve quality deviations, and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).

• Experience with digital quality tools, inspection software, and quality reporting dashboards is an added advantage.

• Educational Qualifications:

• B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, Production, Power Plant Engineering, or equivalent discipline from a recognized university.

• Certifications (Desirable):

• ISO 9001:2015 Lead Auditor

• ASME / IBR / NDT Level-II or Level-III Certification

• Six Sigma (Green/Black Belt) or equivalent Quality Management certification
