Role Purpose / Objective
To lead, strategize, and manage all electrical, instrumentation, automation, and power systems across the integrated plant (capacity ~400 TPD), ensuring high availability, efficiency, safety, compliance, and cost optimization. This role is pivotal in enabling seamless operations across Sponge Iron, Power Plant, Steel Melting Shop, Rolling Mill, and Pipe Mill verticals.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Planning & Leadership
- Define the E&I vision, roadmap, and annual goals aligned with corporate strategy and plant expansion.
- Lead the E&I function across all five verticals: Sponge Iron, Power Plant, Steel Melting Shop (SMS), Rolling Mill, and Pipe Mill.
- Build, mentor, and manage a high-performing team of engineers, supervisors, and technicians.
2. Electrical Systems & Power Distribution
- Oversee design, operation, maintenance of HT/LT distribution network, switchyards, substations, transformers, switchgear, buses, MCC/PCC, VFDs, motor control centers etc.
- Ensure power supply reliability, load balancing, harmonics management, reactive power compensation.
- Work closely with the captive power plant to ensure stable supply and synchronization.
3. Instrumentation, Automation & Control
- Lead specification, implementation, maintenance, and upgrade of PLC / DCS / SCADA / RTU systems covering critical process units.
- Ensure accuracy, calibration, and reliability of instrumentation (temperature, pressure, flow, level, speed, etc.).
- Drive process automation and optimization (closed-loop control, predictive control, advanced instrumentation) to improve yield, energy efficiency, and quality.
4. Maintenance & Reliability Engineering
- Develop and oversee preventive, predictive, condition-based maintenance, and reliability improvement strategies.
- Root Cause Analysis (RCA) of electrical or instrumentation failures, and ensure corrective & preventive actions.
- Manage spares, critical inventories, life cycle replacement planning of E&I assets.
5. Energy Management & Conservation
- Monitor, analyze, and optimize power and energy consumption across all divisions.
- Identify and implement energy saving projects (harmonic filtering, motor efficiency upgrades, power factor correction, waste energy recovery, etc.).
- Lead internal and external energy audits and follow-up action.
6. Safety, Compliance & Quality
- Ensure compliance with statutory regulations (IE Rules, CEA, Electrical Inspector norms), safety standards and in-house electrical safety policies.
- Conduct regular safety audits, risk assessments, and ensure safety protocols for E&I work (lockout-tagout, earthing, isolation, hot work permits).
- Ensure all E&I documentation, drawings, SOPs, maintenance records, calibration logs, vendor documents, change control are maintained and updated.
7. Cost Control & Budgeting
- Prepare E&I budgets (CAPEX & OPEX), track actual vs forecast, and manage cost variance.
- Evaluate vendor proposals, negotiate contracts for E&I supplies, services, and maintenance.
- Monitor lifecycle costs, optimize O&M, and reduce downtime costs.
8. Cross-Functional Collaboration & Project Execution
- Work closely with Process, Maintenance, Operations, Quality, and Safety teams to support plant operations and expansions.
- Lead E&I aspects of new projects, revamps, expansions, and installation of new equipment or lines.
- Provide technical inputs, approvals, and oversight for vendor design, installation, testing and commissioning of E&I systems.
