Job Title: Head Business Development (BESS & Private PPAs Solar)

Location:

Position Overview:

Head – Business Development (BESS & Private PPAs – Solar)

The incumbent will drive end-to-end business development, from opportunity identification and client engagement to contract finalization and strategic partnerships, contributing directly to the company’s growth and profitability.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Business Strategy & Growth

  • Formulate and implement business development strategies for Solar and BESS projects under Private PPA and C&I models.
  • Identify and develop new markets, customers, and strategic opportunities to expand the company’s footprint in the renewable energy sector.
  • Work closely with the Managing Director to define annual business targets and achieve revenue, margin, and capacity addition goals.

2. Private PPA Development

  • Lead origination and negotiation of Private PPAs with corporate and industrial clients for solar and hybrid projects (Solar + BESS).
  • Structure project models, including CAPEX, OPEX, and RESCO agreements based on customer requirements.
  • Conduct financial feasibility analysis and coordinate with internal finance and legal teams for risk assessment and contract closure.

3. BESS Business Development

  • Drive customer acquisition and partnerships for Battery Energy Storage System projects in both standalone and hybrid (Solar + Storage) applications.
  • Work with technical and engineering teams to design and propose customized BESS solutions aligned with client needs.
  • Engage with utilities, large industrial clients, and EPC partners for integrated solution development.

4. Partnerships & Alliances

  • Develop and manage relationships with IPPs, developers, EPC companies, investors and technology providers.
  • Explore strategic tie-ups, JV opportunities, and consortium partnerships for project bidding and implementation.

5. Team Leadership & Coordination

  • Build a mentor, and lead the business development team for achieving short-term and long-term goals.
  • Coordinate with Engineering, Finance, Legal, and Operations functions to ensure seamless project execution post-order finalization.

Key Skills & Competencies:

  • Proven track record in Private PPA origination and closure for solar and/or hybrid projects.
  • Strong understanding of BESS technologies, applications, and commercial models.
  • Excellent client relationship management and negotiation skills.
  • Strategic thinking, business foresight, and entrepreneurial mindset.
  • Proficiency in financial modelling, energy pricing, and contract structuring.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage multiple high-value deals simultaneously.

Qualification & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical / Mechanical / Energy Engineering; MBA or equivalent preferred.
  • 15+ years of experience in Business Development within the Renewable Energy (Solar / BESS) sector.
  • Minimum 10 years of direct experience in Private PPAs and C&I project development.
  • Experience in handling projects above 10 MW capacity with strong industry network in India.
