GM / SR. GM Coke Oven Operation

Role & responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

• Operational Leadership:

  Lead and manage complete Coke Oven, CDQ, and By-Product Plant operations ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable performance. Achieve targeted production, coke quality (CSR, CRI), and energy efficiency parameters through optimized process control.

• Process Optimization:

  Monitor charging, pushing, and heating cycles, ensuring balanced battery performance and minimal gas losses. Optimize coking time, temperature profiles, and oven pressures for consistent quality output. Implement best practices using PLC/DCS-based monitoring systems.

• By-Product & Gas Handling Management:

  Oversee gas collection, cooling, cleaning, and distribution systems. Ensure efficient operation of condensers, scrubbers, electrostatic tar precipitators, and gas exhausters. Maximize recovery of tar, ammonia, benzol, and other by-products while minimizing environmental emissions.

• Maintenance Coordination:

  Work closely with mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation teams to maintain high equipment reliability. Plan shutdowns, refractory maintenance, valve inspections, and gas line repairs with a focus on zero unplanned downtime.

• Safety, Health & Environment (SHE):

  Ensure strict adherence to all safety, environmental, and statutory compliance standards. Implement LOTO, PTW, confined space, and hot work procedures. Drive ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 compliance and promote a zero-incident culture through regular audits and training.

• Manpower & Skill Development:

  Manage a large multi-disciplinary workforce, ensuring optimal deployment, shift management, and succession planning. Conduct regular training on operational excellence, safety, and process optimization to enhance team capability.

• Energy & Cost Management:

  Monitor energy and fuel consumption, driving initiatives for waste heat recovery (CDQ utilization), energy conservation, and cost reduction. Support ISO 50001 compliance and implement cost optimization through efficiency improvement projects.

• Strategic Initiatives & Continuous Improvement:

  Lead performance improvement programs including Kaizen, TPM, and Lean initiatives. Drive technology adoption for digitalization, predictive analytics, and emission control. Contribute to strategic capacity expansion and modernization plans.

• Documentation & Reporting:

  Ensure accurate and timely reporting of production, energy, and process data. Maintain operational logs, dashboards, and performance reports for management review. Approve SOPs, work instructions, and technical manuals for all operating areas.

• Cross-Functional Coordination:

  Coordinate with Raw Material Handling, Blast Furnace, Power Plant, and Utility teams for seamless operations. Liaise with Maintenance, Safety, and Environment departments for synchronized performance and issue resolution.

  2025 years of experience in Coke Oven Operations within an Integrated Steel Plant

• Sr. GM:

  25–30 years of experience leading large Coke Oven, CDQ, and By-Product units with proven results in productivity and safety
