Key Responsibilities of a Fire Technician: Installation and Maintenance: Install and program fire alarm systems, conduct routine maintenance (e.g., battery checks, cleaning detectors), and upgrade systems to meet new standards. Inspection and Testing: Inspect buildings, grounds, and equipment for fire hazards and violations of safety codes, ensuring fire safety equipment (extinguishers, sprinklers, alarms) are operational. Troubleshooting and Repair: Identify and resolve problems in fire alarm systems, and perform necessary repairs and replacements. Fire Safety Training: Provide training to building occupants on fire safety procedures and the operation of fire alarm systems. Risk Assessment and Hazard Identification: Identify and assess fire risks, developing and implementing fire safety strategies. Emergency Response: May assist in fire suppression and rescue operations in some roles, particularly in industries like oil and gas. Documentation and Reporting: Maintain detailed records of installations, maintenance, and repairs, and prepare reports on their findings. Compliance with Safety Standards: Ensure all work meets national and local safety standards, including NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) standards.
