Job Description

The Fire & Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring the safety of the mall premises, tenants, customers, and employees by implementing and monitoring fire safety systems, emergency procedures, and safety guidelines. The role involves conducting regular inspections, audits, training sessions, and coordinating with external agencies to maintain a safe and compliant environment.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Fire Safety Management

  • Conduct regular inspections of fire safety systems including fire alarms, sprinklers, hydrants, extinguishers, and emergency exits.

  • Ensure timely maintenance and servicing of all fire safety equipment.

  • Monitor Fire Control Room (FCR) operations and ensure logbook entries are maintained.

  • Coordinate with AMC vendors for fire equipment maintenance.

2. Emergency Preparedness

  • Develop, implement, and update emergency evacuation plans.

  • Conduct fire drills, evacuation exercises, and emergency response training for staff, tenants, and security teams.

  • Ensure emergency signage, assembly points, and evacuation routes are clearly marked and functional.

3. Compliance & Documentation

  • Ensure compliance with local fire department regulations, NBC norms, and mall safety policies.

  • Maintain documentation related to safety audits, incident reports, inspection checklists, and compliance certificates.

  • Assist in obtaining NOCs and coordinating with statutory bodies like the Fire Department.

4. Tenant Fit-Out Safety Compliance

  • Review and approve fire safety compliance during tenant fit-out and renovation works.

  • Ensure contractors follow mall safety guidelines and use proper PPE.

  • Conduct safety induction for new tenants and contractors.

5. Incident Management

  • Respond to fire alarms, emergencies, and incidents at the mall.

  • Investigate incidents and prepare detailed reports with corrective and preventive measures.

  • Coordinate with medical, security, and rescue teams whenever required.

6. Safety Training & Awareness

  • Conduct regular fire safety awareness programs for employees, tenants, housekeeping, and security staff.

  • Educate teams on safe practices and hazard prevention.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Diploma / Degree in Fire & Safety Engineering or Industrial Safety.

  • Minimum 25 years of experience in fire and safety within malls, commercial complexes, or large public spaces.

  • Knowledge of NBC norms, fire safety systems, and emergency procedures.

  • Experience in coordinating with statutory bodies and AMC vendors.

Skills Required:

  • Strong understanding of fire detection and suppression systems.

  • Good communication and training skills.

  • Ability to handle emergencies and make quick decisions.

  • Attention to detail and strong documentation skills.

  • Knowledge of mall operations and safety protocols.

Working Conditions:

  • Shift-based working environment, including weekends and holidays if required.
