Job Description

Job Summary:

The Head of Finance & Accounts will be responsible for overseeing the overall financial health, compliance, accounting operations, and strategic financial planning of the retail business. This includes financial reporting, budgeting, internal controls, audits, taxation, and treasury functions. The role demands strong leadership to manage a finance team and align financial strategy with business objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Financial Strategy & Planning

Develop and implement financial strategies aligned with business goals.

Forecast financial trends and prepare long-term business plans.

Monitor financial performance and advise on corrective measures.

2. Accounting & Financial Operations

Oversee day-to-day accounting operations including payables, receivables, general ledger, and inventory accounting.

Ensure timely preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements as per applicable standards (e.g., IND-AS).

Implement internal financial controls and ensure policy compliance.

3. Budgeting & Cost Management

Lead the annual budgeting process and monthly budget reviews.

Analyze operational costs, margins, and profitability at store and category levels.

Control overheads and optimize cash flow across retail locations.

4. Taxation & Compliance

Ensure compliance with all statutory requirements including GST, TDS, Income Tax, PF, ESI, and other applicable laws.

Handle all taxation matters, filings, and assessments with relevant authorities.

5. Audits & Risk Management

Coordinate internal and external audits.

Identify financial risks and implement mitigation strategies.

Ensure transparency and accuracy in financial disclosures.

6. Team Leadership & Coordination

Lead and mentor the Finance & Accounts team.

Liaise with auditors, banks, vendors, and government departments.

Coordinate with internal departments (Sales, Operations, HR, etc.) for financial matters.

7. MIS & Reporting

Generate accurate MIS reports for management decision-making.

Track retail KPIs such as sales per store, footfall vs. conversion, inventory turnover, etc.

Provide financial insights for pricing, promotions, and expansion planning.

Qualifications & Skills:

Education: CA / CMA / MBA (Finance) or equivalent.

Experience: Minimum 1015 years of experience in Finance & Accounts, with at least 5 years in a leadership role in the retail industry.

Technical Skills: Proficiency in ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, etc.), MS Excel, and financial modeling.

Knowledge: Strong understanding of Indian accounting standards, taxation, retail operations, inventory accounting, and statutory compliances.

Soft Skills: Leadership, attention to detail, analytical mindset, business acumen, and stakeholder management.
