Job Description

Job Summary:

The FAI Manager is responsible for overseeing the First Article Inspection (FAI) process in a CNC machining environment. This role ensures that the first manufactured part of a production run meets all design specifications, regulatory requirements, and customer expectations before full-scale production begins. To Maximize efficiency and output of FAI parts

Key Responsibilities:

FAI Planning & Execution

Develop and implement FAI procedures in accordance with AS9102 or customer-specific standards.

Coordinate with engineering, production, and quality teams to ensure readiness for FAI.

Review technical drawings, CAD models, and specifications to prepare inspection plans.

Inspection & Documentation

Supervise or perform dimensional and functional inspections using tools like CMMs, calipers, micrometers, and optical comparators.

Ensure accurate completion of FAI reports and documentation.

Maintain traceability of materials, processes, and measurements.

Quality Assurance & Compliance

Ensure compliance with industry standards (ISO 9001, AS9100, etc.).

Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions for non-conformances identified during FAI.

Interface with customers and auditors regarding FAI results and quality documentation.

Team Leadership & Training

Manage and mentor FAI setters, inspectors and quality technicians.

Provide training on FAI procedures, GD&T interpretation, and inspection tools.

Foster a culture of continuous improvement and quality excellence.

Process Improvement

Analyze FAI data to identify trends and opportunities for process optimization.

Collaborate with production and engineering to improve manufacturability and reduce inspection failures.

Minimum 5 years of experience in CNC machining and quality inspection.

Strong knowledge of GD&T, AS9102 standards, and precision measurement techniques.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and quality software (e.g., SPC, ERP systems).

Excellent communication, analytical, and leadership skills.
