Role Objective
The Purchase Executive will be responsible for end-to-end procurement of construction materials, equipment, and services, as well as supporting the trading operations of TMT bars. The role demands strong vendor sourcing, rate negotiation, market research, and technical evaluation skills to ensure cost-effective and timely material procurement.
Key Responsibilities
- Material Procurement & Vendor Coordination
Source and procure construction materials (cement, sand, aggregates, TMT bars, structural steel, electrical, and plumbing materials).
Coordinate with site engineers and project managers to understand material requirements and delivery schedules.Develop and maintain a reliable vendor base for TMT bars and other building materials.Issue purchase orders (POs) and ensure delivery as per specification, quantity, and quality standards.
- Rate Analysis & Cost Optimization
Collect multiple quotations from vendors and prepare detailed technical and commercial comparisons (T&C or TAE sheets).
Negotiate with vendors to achieve the best possible rates without compromising on quality.Analyze market trends, raw material prices (especially steel/TMT), and logistic costs to optimize procurement budgets.Maintain records of rate histories and periodically benchmark market prices.
- New Vendor Development & Market Research
Conduct regular market visits to identify and qualify new suppliers and manufacturers.
Build long-term relationships with local and regional vendors for competitive sourcing.Assess vendor capability in terms of production capacity, delivery reliability, and quality standards.Promote Alpha's brand in the market and strengthen supplier partnerships for TMT trading and bulk procurement.
- Vendor Marketing & Material Sourcing
Actively search for new vendors through visits, online searches, and networking.
Maintain regular communication with suppliers to stay updated on market availability, price fluctuations, and new material options.Identify vendors offering superior quality materials at competitive rates.Support TMT trading operations manage inventory levels, supplier coordination, and order fulfillment.
- Documentation & Compliance
Maintain procurement records inquiries, quotations, comparative statements, POs, and delivery challans.Coordinate with Accounts for invoice verification and vendor payment processing.Ensure compliance with taxation (GST), company policies, and statutory documentation.Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly procurement reports for management review.
Required Technical Knowledge
Strong understanding of construction materials, particularly TMT bars, cement, aggregates, and structural steel.Knowledge of IS standards and technical specifications of building materials.Basic understanding of BOQ, drawings, and site material requirements.Familiarity with ERP / Tally / Excel-based procurement systems.
Qualifications & Experience
Education: Diploma / B. Tech / B.E. in Civil or Mechanical Engineering, or Graduate in Commerce/Supply Chain.Experience: 26 years in purchase/procurement within a construction or material trading firm (TMT / steel preferred).
