We are looking for a seasoned Engineering Manager to spearhead component development and drive process innovation at Rapsri Engineering Products Ltd. As Engineering Manager, you will play a pivotal role in bridging marketing insights with manufacturing feasibility, leading cross-functional teams from initial customer drawings to final PPAP approval. Responsibilities:
Component Development & Design
- Lead cross-functional teams in converting customer drawings into detailed internal manufacturing drawings, ensuring alignment with GD&T and design for manufacturability (DFM) principles.
- Develop accurate and detailed solid models for dies, castings/forgings, and machined components using SolidWorks or similar CAD software.
- Establish and document comprehensive manufacturing processes for new component development, ensuring adherence to quality standards throughout the PPAP process.
- Approve all engineering documentation required for customer approval, including material specifications, process parameters, and quality control procedures.
- Manage the prototyping process, including material selection, prototyping and tolerance stack-up analysis, ensuring timely delivery of functional samples.
- Collaborate with marketing to assess manufacturing feasibility and provide accurate cost estimations for new and existing components.
Process Innovation & Technology Change Management
- Identify and implement technology changes and process innovations to reduce manufacturing costs, improve product quality, and increase overall productivity.
- Lead value engineering and application engineering projects to optimize component designs and manufacturing processes.
- Implement statistical process control (SPC) and failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) methodologies to identify and mitigate potential manufacturing risks.
- Oversee the implementation of lean manufacturing principles and value stream mapping to optimize production flow and reduce waste.
- Evaluate and implement automation technologies to improve efficiency and reduce manual labor in casting, machining, and plating processes.
- Stay abreast of industry best practices and emerging technologies in casting, machining, and plating, and implement relevant advancements within the organization.
Tooling & Fixture Design Management
- Lead and mentor a team of die and fixture designers in the development of high-quality tooling and fixtures for casting, machining, and plating operations.
- Oversee the design and fabrication of dies for permanent mold casting, ensuring optimal performance and longevity.
- Manage the design and construction of machining jigs and fixtures to ensure accurate and repeatable machining operations.
- Ensure that all tooling and fixture designs comply with relevant safety standards and regulatory requirements.
- Implement and maintain a robust document control system for all tooling and fixture designs and related documentation.
- Manage tooling inventory and maintenance schedules to minimize downtime and ensure optimal performance.
Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Ensure adherence to all quality control procedures throughout the manufacturing process, from raw material inspection to final product testing.
- Lead the PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) activities, ensuring that all required documentation is complete and accurate.
- Implement and maintain a robust document control system to ensure compliance with industry standards and customer requirements.
- Conduct internal audits to ensure compliance with quality management system requirements.
- Address and resolve any quality issues or non-conformances in a timely and effective manner.
- Utilize data analysis and statistical process control (SPC) techniques to monitor and improve process performance.
Team Leadership & Mentoring
- Provide leadership and guidance to a team of engineers and designers, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Mentor junior engineers and designers, providing technical guidance and support to help them develop their skills and expertise.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback to team members to support their professional development.
- Delegate tasks and responsibilities effectively, ensuring that team members have the resources and support they need to succeed.
- Promote a safe and positive work environment, encouraging open communication and teamwork.
- Conduct regular team meetings to communicate project updates, address challenges, and solicit feedback.
General Expectations and Past Experiences:
- Possess a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, coupled with 1015 years of experience in a manufacturing environment specializing in machining, casting, and plating.
- Demonstrated expertise in tool and die design, fixture design, and solid modeling using software such as SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
- Proven track record of leading cross-functional teams in component development, from initial concept to PPAP approval.
- In-depth knowledge of manufacturing processes, including casting (sand, permanent mold, continuous), machining (CNC milling, turning, grinding), and plating (copper, brass, bronze).
- Strong understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) principles and their application in manufacturing drawings.
- Experience in implementing process innovation and technology change management initiatives to reduce costs, improve quality, and increase productivity.
- Exceptional leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively mentor and manage a team of engineers and designers.
