Job Description

Objective:

To lead the engineering function for power electronics in electric vehicle applications, driving the development of advanced converters and controllers, ensuring compliance with safety standards, and enabling commercially successful product outcomes aligned with strategic business goals.

To build and lead a world-class engineering team focused on the design and development of power electronics systems (motors and controllers) for 2W, 3W, and 4W EV applications within a start-up business unit backed by a reputed automotive group. The role demands deep technical leadership combined with strong project, people, and stakeholder management capabilities to deliver innovative, safe, and market-ready products from concept to launch.

Role Summary:

This role presents a unique opportunity to lead the engineering function of a next-generation electric mobility start-up, incubated and supported by a reputed and established automotive company. It requires a visionary engineering leader with deep expertise in power electronics and motor/controller systems who can thrive in an agile, entrepreneurial environment while leveraging the strengths and governance of a large enterprise.

You will be responsible for the end-to-end design, validation, and industrialization of motor and controller solutions for 2W, 3W, and 4W EV applications. In addition, you will play a critical role in building and mentoring the engineering team, defining the technology roadmap, and collaborating closely with customers and internal stakeholders to drive technical excellence and business success.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Technical Leadership Power Electronics & Control Systems

  • Lead end-to-end design, development, and validation of power electronic systems including:
  • PFC Boost converters, LLC resonant converters, Flyback and Forward converters
  • Analog circuit design including Op-Amps and signal conditioning
  • Oversee development of mathematical models and control strategies for converters and drive systems
  • Guide simulation activities using MATLAB/Simulink, PSIM, PSpice, LTspice for system-level validation and optimization

Product Development & Innovation

  • Drive innovation in high-frequency magnetic design and switching loss optimization
  • Ensure robustness of digital control algorithms for efficient and reliable motor and controller operation
  • Champion best practices in analog/digital integration, EMI/EMC design, thermal management, and compact PCB layouts

Standards & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with safety and automotive functional safety standards including ISO 26262 and ASIL levels
  • Lead DFMEA, functional safety reviews, and risk assessments throughout the V-cycle

Cross-functional & Commercial Collaboration

  • Act as a techno-commercial interface:
  • Collaborate with BD/Sales for custom design proposals and client presentations
  • Participate in client discussions to understand requirements and tailor solutions
  • Lead technical responses for RFQs and new business pitches
  • Work closely with manufacturing and quality teams to ensure manufacturability and reliability

Project & People Management

  • Lead multidisciplinary engineering teams (simulation, electronics, embedded software, testing)
  • Own project delivery timelines, cost, and quality metrics
  • Mentor team on emerging technologies and build internal technical capabilities

External Stakeholder Management

  • Interface with OEMs, technology partners, and certification bodies for technical alignment
  • Build and maintain strategic relationships to influence product adoption and roadmap collaboration

Candidate Profile

Education & Certifications:

  • B.E./B.Tech or M.Tech in Electrical, Electronics, or Power Electronics from reputed institutions

Experience:

  • 20+ years of experience in power electronics development for automotive or industrial applications
  • Proven expertise in designing and implementing control strategies for EV power converters and drive systems
  • Strong hands-on exposure to simulation tools and control theory applied in real-world product development
  • Demonstrated experience in working with cross-functional and client-facing teams in techno-commercial capacities
  • Global experience in managing the entire product lifecyclefrom concept, design, and development to validation, manufacturing, and post-launch supportis highly desirable

  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to translate technical solutions into business opportunities
  • Excellent leadership skills with a proven track record in project execution and team development
  • Articulate, objective, and confident communication with both internal teams and external stakeholders across geographies
