Engineer / Sr. Engineer - HVOF Coating (Expert)

Role & responsibilities

HVOF Coating Operations

• Operate and monitor HVOF coating systems as per defined process parameters.
• Prepare, mask, and clean components before coating to ensure desired surface finish and accuracy.
• Handle and apply appropriate coating materials (e.g., WC-Co, Cr3C2-NiCr, etc.) per job requirements.
• Maintain coating thickness, bonding, and uniformity as per engineering specifications.

• Process Control & Quality Assurance

• Ensure coating properties meet required mechanical and metallurgical standards.
• Conduct coating inspection tests thickness, adhesion, hardness, and porosity.
• Maintain process records, inspection data, and equipment calibration reports.
• Work closely with Quality and Engineering teams for continuous process improvement.

• Equipment Maintenance & Safety

• Carry out preventive maintenance of HVOF spray guns, powder feeders, and gas systems.
• Adhere to EHS guidelines and ensure safe handling of gases, flames, and high-temperature operations.
• Maintain housekeeping and ensure compliance with plant safety procedures.

• Process Development & Improvement

• Support development of coating parameters for new products and materials.
• Identify opportunities to enhance coating quality, reduce cost, and improve efficiency.
• Participate in troubleshooting and root cause analysis of coating-related issues.

• Documentation & Reporting

• Maintain coating operation logs, quality records, and maintenance checklists.
• Support internal, customer, and third-party audits related to coating processes.

Preferred candidate profile

Experience:

• 3 to 8 years of experience in HVOF or thermal spray coating operations, preferably in precision machining or Oil & Gas components manufacturing.

Technical Skills:

• Hands-on experience with HVOF systems (Sulzer Metco, Praxair, or equivalent).
• Knowledge of coating materials, bond coats, and surface preparation techniques.
• Familiarity with coating inspection methods and relevant standards (ASTM / ISO).
• Understanding of metallurgical aspects of coatings and base materials.
