About the Role
Responsibilities
We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated GIS Specialist to support our efforts in applying geospatial intelligence for planning, analysis, and decision-making. This role is essential for advancing data-led solutions in integrated rural development, landscape restoration, and resilience-building initiatives. As a GIS Specialist, you will work closely with internal teams and government partners to enable high-impact outcomes using tools such as crop health monitoring, flood and drought assessment, and soil moisture analysis.
Data Management: Collecting, organizing, and maintaining geographic data within databases. Climate vulnerability assessment tools and geospatial analysis programs like - Crop health monitoring, flood and drought monitoring and soil moisture analysis. Spatial Analysis: Analyzing spatial relationships, patterns, and trends using GIS software. Mapping & Visualization: Creating maps, charts, and other visualizations to represent spatial data. Database Development: Developing and maintaining structured databases for spatial data. Software and Tools: Utilizing GIS software (like ArcGIS, QGIS) and other tools for data analysis and mapping.
Qualifications & Experiences
Collaboration: Working with other professionals and stakeholders to incorporate and present information. Problem-Solving: Applying geospatial expertise to solve real-world problems.
Typical Tasks: Data Collection and Verification: Gathering geographic information from various sources (satellite imagery, surveys, etc.) and ensuring its accuracy. Map Creation: Designing and producing maps for different purposes, including public display or publication. Database Maintenance: Ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of geospatial databases. Report Generation: Creating reports using GIS and other relevant data sources. Custom Tool Development: Developing custom tools or scripts to enhance GIS functionality.
Master s degree in Geography, Environmental Science, or a related field Minimum 6 years of relevant work experience, preferably in the development sector Proficiency in GIS software such as ArcGIS and QGIS, and basic scripting skills (e.g., Python, R) Familiarity with remote sensing techniques and satellite imagery interpretation Experience in developing and managing geospatial databases Strong communication skills both verbal and written Proficiency in tools such as MS Office, Excel, Google Workspace, and reporting platforms

Knowledge/Skills
