Job Summary:

The Editor will be responsible for reviewing, editing, and refining news stories, articles, and features to ensure clarity, accuracy, and adherence to the newspaper’s editorial standards. The role requires excellent language skills, strong news judgment, and the ability to work under tight deadlines. The Editor will collaborate closely with reporters, sub-editors, and layout teams to produce high-quality, engaging, and credible content for the newspaper.

Key Responsibilities:

• Edit and proofread articles, news stories, and features for grammar, style, accuracy, and tone.
• Ensure all published content meets editorial guidelines and journalistic ethics.
• Collaborate with reporters and correspondents to refine story angles and improve news quality.
• Verify facts, data, and sources to maintain credibility and reliability.
• Write or rewrite headlines, sub-heads, and captions for clarity and impact.
• Coordinate with design and layout teams for placement and presentation of stories.
• Monitor wire services, agencies, and breaking news updates to support daily content planning.
• Assist the Editor-in-Chief or Managing Editor in daily editorial meetings and content planning.
• Maintain consistency in editorial style and newspaper standards.
• Support the newsroom in meeting production deadlines and managing last-minute editorial changes.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Mass Communication, English, or a related field.
• Minimum 3–5 years of experience in editorial work within a newspaper or print publication.
• Strong editing, proofreading, and writing skills.
• Excellent command of language and attention to detail.
• Good understanding of media ethics, press laws, and journalistic standards.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
• Proficiency in editorial and newsroom software (e.g., InDesign, CMS).
