Desk Editor

As a Desk Editor at The Secretariat, you will be responsible for overseeing the production and editing process of news content. Your role will involve coordinating with reporters and contributors, editing copy for clarity, grammar, and style, and ensuring that content meets editorial standards and deadlines. Key Responsibilities: - Edit news articles for accuracy, clarity, grammar, and adherence to house style. - Collaborate closely with reporters, photographers, and designers to package content. - Ensure content meets legal and ethical guidelines, including fact-checking and verification. - Monitor news wires, social media, and other sources to stay updated on developing stories. - Work with teams to optimize content for various platforms. - Assist in planning long-term editorial projects and special editions. - Manage newsroom workflow and help with editorial. Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, English, or related field. - 3+ years of experience in editorial or newsroom environment, ideally as a sub-editor or editor. - Excellent command of language, grammar, and editorial style. - Strong news judgment and familiarity with journalistic ethics and standards. - Proficiency with CMS platforms and basic photo/video editing tools is a plus. - Ability to work in high-pressure environments and meet tight deadlines. - Strong communication and team management skills.
