Design Mentor/Teacher

Role & responsibilities

The Design Mentor is responsible for guiding CBSE Class XI and XII students through the Design curriculum, fostering creative thinking, problem-solving, and innovation while aligning teaching with CBSE competency-based education and assessment standards. The mentor supports students in developing design processes, portfolios, and real-world solutions.

Preferred candidate profile

Academic & Teaching Responsibilities

• Teach Design Thinking / Design Studies curriculum for Classes XI and XII as prescribed by CBSE.
  
• Introduce students to the design process: empathy, problem definition, ideation, prototyping, testing, and iteration.
  
• Conduct hands-on, project-based learning sessions using real-life problem statements.
  
• Integrate interdisciplinary learning (science, technology, arts, sustainability, and social sciences) into design projects.
  
• Guide students in developing design portfolios, models, and presentations.
  

Assessment & Evaluation

• Plan and conduct formative and summative assessments as per CBSE guidelines.

• Maintain accurate academic records and provide constructive, rubric-based feedback.
  
• Prepare students for internal assessments, exhibitions, and board-related submissions (where applicable).
  

Mentoring & Student Development

• Mentor students in creative thinking, collaboration, and communication skills.
  
• Encourage innovation, entrepreneurship, and responsible design practices.
  
• Support students interested in design careers, higher studies, or competitions.
  
• Identify individual learning needs and provide differentiated support.

Curriculum & School Engagement

• Collaborate with other subject teachers to promote cross-curricular projects.
  
• Participate in curriculum planning, reviews, and academic meetings.
  
• Organize and support design exhibitions, workshops, hackathons, and showcases.
  
• Stay updated with CBSE circulars, assessment reforms, and NEP 2020 guidelines.
• Bachelors or Master’s degree in Design, Architecture, Fine Arts, Industrial Design, Fashion Design, Product Design, or related fields.
  
• B.Ed. or teacher training certification (preferred for CBSE schools).
  
• Familiarity with CBSE Senior Secondary Design curriculum.
• 0 to 3 Years of experience in teaching design or mentoring students at the secondary/senior secondary level (preferred).
  
• Strong understanding of design thinking methodologies.
  
• Proficiency in design tools (sketching, model making, basic digital tools – as applicable).
  
• Excellent communication, facilitation, and mentoring skills.
  
• Ability to manage classrooms, guide group projects, and inspire creativity.
  
• Evaluate student work including design journals, portfolios, prototypes, and project reports.
