Design Engineer (Mechanical)

Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled BIW (Body-in-White) Fixture Design Engineer to join our engineering team in Coimbatore. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing welding fixtures, checking fixtures, and assembly tooling used in automotive BIW manufacturing. The role involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality designs that meet customer specifications and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Design BIW welding fixtures, checking fixtures, and assembly jigs using CAD tools (CATIA, NX, SolidWorks, etc.).
• Develop 3D models, 2D drawings, and detailed BOM in accordance with customer and process requirements.
• Perform conceptual design, detailing, and design reviews for fixture systems.
• Ensure fixture designs comply with DFM, DFS, and ergonomic guidelines.
• Collaborate with manufacturing, simulation, and process teams to ensure feasibility and functionality.
• Provide technical support during fixture manufacturing, assembly, installation, and try-out phases.
• Conduct GD&T analysis and ensure tolerance stack-ups are managed effectively.
• Work with suppliers and internal teams to finalize material selection, standard parts, and design standards.
• Ensure timely delivery of design deliverables and maintain proper documentation.
• Troubleshoot design issues and propose improvements for manufacturability and cost reduction.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Automobile/Production Engineering or equivalent.
• 1–3 years of experience in BIW fixture design (welding, checking, assembly fixtures).
• Proficiency in CATIA V5/V6 or Siemens NX (preferred).
• Strong understanding of BIW processes, welding techniques, and automotive tooling standards.
• Hands-on experience with GD&T, tolerance analysis, and PLP concepts.
• Knowledge of fixture elements such as clamps, pins, risers, shims, cylinders, sensors, etc.
• Ability to read and create 2D drawings per industry standards.
• Good communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.

Pay: ₹10,000.00 - ₹15,000.00 per month
