Job Description

The Dean of the School of Mass Communication will serve as the academic and administrative leader of the school, overseeing curriculum development, faculty affairs, research initiatives, student success, industry collaboration, and community engagement. The Dean is expected to foster academic excellence, strategic growth, innovation in media education, and a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion. Key Responsibilities: Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement a long-term vision and strategic plan for the School of Mass Communication in alignment with the universitys mission. Academic Oversight: Oversee undergraduate, graduate, and certificate programs in journalism, media studies, advertising, public relations, digital communication, and related disciplines. Faculty Development: Recruit, retain, and develop a high-performing and diverse faculty. Lead faculty performance evaluations, tenure, and promotion processes. Research & Innovation: Promote research excellence and interdisciplinary collaborations. Encourage faculty and students to engage in impactful media-related research and creative endeavors. Curriculum & Accreditation: Ensure that academic programs meet industry standards and accreditation requirements. Lead regular curriculum reviews and updates. Student Success: Enhance student learning outcomes, retention, career development, and alumni engagement. Foster partnerships with media organizations to create internship and placement opportunities. Industry Engagement: Build strong relationships with media professionals, organizations, and alumni to create collaborative opportunities and ensure programs remain industry-relevant. Budget & Administration: Manage budgets, allocate resources effectively, and support fundraising and grant initiatives. Qualifications: A Ph.D. or terminal degree in Mass Communication, Media Studies, Journalism, or a closely related field. Minimum of 10 years of experience in academia with a record of excellence in teaching, research, and service. Prior administrative or leadership experience (e.g., Department Chair, Associate Dean, or Dean level). Demonstrated experience in curriculum development, faculty management, and accreditation. Strong communication, interpersonal, and decision-making skills. Evidence of commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
