Cybersecurity Specialist Telecommunications Security

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Cybersecurity Lead with a strong background in Telecommunications (Telco) Security to oversee and enhance our security posture across critical Telco infrastructure and services. The ideal candidate will possess deep technical expertise in telecom systems, 5G/4G networks, and regulatory compliance, along with proven leadership capabilities in managing cross-functional cybersecurity initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the design, implementation, and governance of cybersecurity controls for telecommunications infrastructure, including mobile networks (4G/5G), fixed-line, core, and edge systems. Proficiency with emerging paradigms such as Software Defined Networking (SDN), Network Function Virtualization (NFV), and cloud-based telecom services which are critical in modern telecom environment

• Network Configuration and Protocol Knowledge : Deep understanding of telecom network infrastructure including routers, switches, firewalls, and communication protocols such as TCP/IP, UDP, MPLS, and VoIP essential for secure and efficient data transmission across telecom networks.

• Develop and maintain the Telco-specific cybersecurity strategy and roadmap aligned with business goals and regulatory requirements (e.g., NIST, ISO 27011, GSMA standards, ENISA).

• Security Management and Cybersecurity: Implementing and maintaining robust security measures configuring firewalls, VPNs, intrusion detection and prevention systems (IDS/IPS), and encryption technologies to protect sensitive telecom data and prevent cyber threats

• Manage and conduct security risk assessments, threat modeling, and vulnerability management for telecom systems and services.

• Data Analytics and Network Monitoring : Using analytic tools to interpret network traffic data, detect anomalies, and optimize security policies aligned with modern telecom usage patterns

• Cloud Security and Virtualization: Knowledge of cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure) relevant to telecom infrastructure modernization, including securing virtualized network functions and hybrid cloud environments.

• Collaborate with network engineering, IT, and operations teams to ensure secure design and deployment of network functions virtualization (NFV), software-defined networking (SDN), MEC, and 5G slicing.

• Drive incident response planning and execution, especially for telecom-related threats (e.g., SS7/SIGTRAN exploitation, SIM swap, DDoS on telecom core).

• Ensure compliance with telecom regulations and standards, including GDPR, local data privacy laws, and telecom-specific mandates.

• Lead a team of cybersecurity analysts, architects, and engineers; provide mentoring, training, and performance management.

• Coordinate with internal stakeholders and external partners (e.g., vendors, government agencies, regulators) on security matters.

• Stay current on emerging threats, vulnerabilities, and technologies impacting the telecom sector and recommend mitigation strategies.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Telecommunications, or related field.

• Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in cybersecurity, with at least 4-6 years in telecom security roles.

• Strong understanding of telecom network architectures (mobile and fixed), protocols (SS7, Diameter, SIP, GTP, etc.), and security challenges.

• Experience with telecom infrastructure vendors (e.g., Ericsson, Nokia, Huawei, Cisco) and security technologies (e.g., firewalls, IPS/IDS, SIEM, UEBA, endpoint protection).

• Hands-on knowledge of cloud-native telecom architectures, 5G core, and edge computing security considerations.

• Expertise in Telecom Network & Interfaces Security Testing. Adversary simulation & testing.

• Expertise in Risk & Maturity evaluation & Security Index for all line of business/verticals.

• Expertise architecture & security controls review & assessment.

• Experience in regulatory compliance, audits, and security certifications (e.g., ISO/IEC 27011, NIS Directive, GSMA NESAS).

• Relevant certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CCSP, GSMA Security Certifications, CEH, or GIAC are strongly preferred.

• Soft Skills - Critical thinking, attention to detail, adaptability, teamwork, and the ability to communicate complex security concepts to technical and non-technical audiences are also vital
