Consultant - Climate Data Specialist

Role Overview: You will join WSP Canada as a Climate Data Specialist in the Climate Change, Resilience, and Sustainability team, supporting the Climate Risk and Resilience practice. As part of a national team of climate change engineers and scientists, you will assist clients in planning, delivering, and maintaining resilient assets across Canada. Key Responsibilities: - Develop and apply technical workflows for analyzing environmental data, including downscaled climate model output, to create climate projections and assess current and future exposures. - Utilize tools and analysis methods to identify and address challenges in climate datasets. - Support quantitative analysis of exposure, vulnerability, risks, and resilience related to long-term climate change for clients such as municipalities and infrastructure agencies. - Prepare documentation summarizing methodologies and results for technical and lay audiences. - Contribute to projects by coordinating with internal colleagues, external resources, agencies, and consulting team partners. - Assist in quality control operations of climate analysis portions of projects and contribute to defining best practices for consistency and scientific robustness in climate change risk assessment processes. - Participate in research and development initiatives to advance innovative practices in climate change risk and resilience. - Collaborate with national business lines within WSP to provide advisory services focusing on climate science, climate risks, and adaptation planning. Qualifications: - Undergraduate or graduate degree in data science, hydrology, meteorology, atmospheric science, climate science, environmental engineering, or related field. - Strong computer skills including programming (e.g., Python), data management, and processing skills. - Proficiency in version control systems (e.g., Git, GitHub) for code management and collaboration. - Experience with tools and coding scripts for data processing, analysis, and visualization. - Strong statistics background with expertise in statistical methods for meteorological data analysis. - Experience with high-performance computing and parallel processing in cloud environments. - Familiarity with climate change models, downscaling, AI, and machine learning is advantageous. - Understanding of frequency analysis, bias correction, hazard modeling, vulnerability assessments, and communicating technical analyses to non-technical audiences. - Detail-oriented, committed to quality, innovation, collaboration, and professional growth.
