Job Description

As a Climate Data Specialist at WSP Canada, you will be part of a national team of climate change engineers and scientists dedicated to supporting clients in planning, delivering, and maintaining resilient assets across Canada. You will work in collaboration with various teams within the Environment Business Line and have the opportunity to engage with WSP's global network. **Key Responsibilities:** - Work on the development and application of technical workflows for analyzing environmental data, including downscaled climate model output, to develop climate projections and assess current and future exposures for various weather phenomena. - Leverage tools and analysis methods to identify and address challenges in climate datasets. - Support quantitative analysis of exposure, vulnerability, risks, and resilience associated with long-term climate change considerations for clients such as municipalities and infrastructure agencies. - Prepare documentation summarizing methodologies and results for technical and lay audiences. - Contribute to multiple projects by effectively coordinating with internal colleagues, external resources, agencies, and consulting team partners. - Contribute to advancing the Climate Risk & Resilience Services practice through effective data-driven analysis and decision-making. - Participate in quality control operations of climate analysis portions of projects and contribute to defining best practices for consistency and scientific robustness. - Contribute to research and development initiatives in the field of climate change risk and resilience. - Collaborate with national business lines within WSP to provide advisory services focusing on climate science, climate risks, and adaptation planning. **Qualifications Required:** - Undergraduate or graduate degree in data science, hydrology, meteorology, atmospheric science, climate science, environmental engineering, or related field. - Strong computer skills including programming skills (e.g., Python) and data management and processing skills related to model output. - Proficiency in version control systems (e.g., Git, GitHub) for managing code and collaborating on projects. - Experience working with tools and coding scripts for data processing, analysis, and visualization. - Strong statistics background with experience in statistical methods for meteorological data analysis. - Experience with high-performance computing (HPC) and parallel processing in cloud environments. - Knowledge of climate change models, statistical and dynamical downscaling, and AI/machine learning is an asset. - Excellent communication skills for presenting technical analysis and results to non-technical audiences. - Attention to detail, commitment to quality reviews, and ability to work independently and collaboratively on challenging topics.
