Composites R&D Engineer – Thermoplastics | Blinq Mobility

About the Role

The ideal candidate is anyone interested in tooling and manufacturing processes in thermoplastics and is motivated to learn through experimentation. This is a highly practical role involving workshop trials, tooling iterations, and close interaction with vendors. Prior experience in CF/GF composites or FS background is a bonus.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Research and experimentation with thermoplastic composite materials
• Develop and validate layering strategies, inserts, and core material concepts
• Work on surface finish, colouring, textures, and cosmetic quality
• Perform hands-on trials with compression moulding (injection moulding exposure is a plus)
• Design and iterate tooling concepts, fixtures, and moulds
• Set up and optimize manufacturing process parameters
• Conduct material, part, and process testing and document results
• Establish and manage vendor and supplier connections for materials and tooling
• Support quality control and repeatability for developed processes
• Translate R&D learnings into manufacturable vehicle components

Technical Skills Required

• Hands-on experience with carbon fibre and/or glass fibre composites
• Understanding of composite layups, inserts, and core materials
• Interest in thermoplastic composites and scalable manufacturing
• Basic knowledge of compression moulding processes
• Ability to work in a workshop/lab environment
• Clear documentation and communication of experiments and results

Qualifications

• B.Tech / M.Tech in Mechanical, Automotive, Materials, or related field
• Formula Student / Baja / EV racing team experience preferred
• 0–4 years of relevant experience (fresh graduates with strong hands-on work encouraged)
• Strong curiosity, experimental mindset, and willingness to learn on the job
