A Commis Chef, often referred to as a junior cook, holds an entry-level position in a restaurant kitchen, assisting more experienced chefs with various tasks. Your responsibilities will involve preparing ingredients, assisting with cooking, cleaning, and maintaining the kitchen's hygiene and organization. You will have the opportunity to learn basic culinary techniques and follow the instructions of senior chefs, thereby contributing to the smooth operation of the kitchen. Your key responsibilities as a Commis Chef will include food preparation, such as chopping, slicing, peeling, and preparing ingredients according to recipe instructions. Additionally, you will assist senior chefs with cooking tasks like sauting, boiling, steaming, and baking. Ensuring hygiene and cleanliness in the kitchen by maintaining a clean and organized workstation and adhering to food safety and sanitation guidelines will be paramount. You will also assist with inventory management, stock rotation, and proper storage of food items. As a Commis Chef, you will play a role in handling deliveries, accepting and storing them appropriately. You will have the opportunity to learn and develop your culinary skills by following the guidance of senior chefs. Additionally, you may be required to assist with various other kitchen tasks as needed, such as plating, temperature checks, and inventory audits. Effective communication with other kitchen staff and senior chefs is crucial for seamless operations. The ideal candidate for this role should possess basic culinary skills, attention to detail, and accuracy. You should be able to follow instructions and work under guidance, demonstrating physical stamina and strength to work under pressure. Strong communication skills and knowledge of food safety and sanitation procedures are essential in this role.
