Job Title: Chief Security Officer (CSO)

Department : Security / Risk Management / Administration

Reports To : Chief Executive Officer (CEO) or Chief Operating Officer (COO)

Position Summary

The Chief Security Officer is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing all

security strategies to protect patients, staff, visitors, assets, and information within the hospital.

This role ensures a safe, secure, and compliant healthcare environment while supporting clinical

operations and patient care.

Key Responsibilities

Security Strategy & Leadership

 Develop and implement hospital-wide security policies, procedures, and emergency

response plans

 Lead, train, and manage security personnel and contracted security services

 Establish performance standards and conduct regular evaluations

 Serve as the hospital’s senior authority on safety and security matters

Patient, Staff & Visitor Safety

 Ensure a safe environment for patients, families, staff, and visitors

 Oversee access control, visitor management, and perimeter security

 Manage incidents involving violence, theft, disturbances, or missing persons

 Support de-escalation strategies and workplace violence prevention

Emergency & Crisis Management

 Lead security response for emergencies (active threats, disasters, fire, evacuation, mass

casualty events)

 Coordinate with clinical leadership, emergency management teams, and local law

enforcement

 Conduct regular drills and emergency preparedness training

Risk Management & Compliance

 Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, accreditation standards, and legal

requirements

(e.g., Joint Commission, HIPAA security standards, local safety regulations)

 Conduct risk assessments and vulnerability analyses

 Investigate security incidents and prepare detailed reports

Technology & Infrastructure Security

 Oversee security systems such as CCTV, access control, alarms, and panic systems

 Collaborate with IT on cybersecurity and physical-information security integration

 Recommend and implement security technology upgrades

Collaboration & Communication

 Work closely with nursing leadership, medical staff, facilities, HR, IT, and legal teams

 Serve as liaison with law enforcement, emergency services, and regulatory agencies

 Provide regular security briefings and reports to hospital leadership

Budget & Resource Management

 Develop and manage the security department budget

 Ensure cost-effective use of personnel, equipment, and contracts

 Evaluate vendor performance and negotiate service agreements

Required Qualifications

Education

Note : ARMY BACKGROUND / RETIRED POLICE [ MUST ]

 Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Security Management, Healthcare Administration,

or related field

 Master’s degree preferred

Experience

 8–10 years of progressive security leadership experience

 Prior experience in healthcare, hospital, or large campus environments strongly preferred

 Demonstrated experience in emergency management and crisis response

Certifications (Preferred)

- ARMY

 Certified Protection Professional (CPP)

 Physical Security Professional (PSP)

 Healthcare Security Certification (CHPA, IAHSS certifications)

Skills & Competencies

 Strong leadership and decision-making skills

 Knowledge of hospital operations and patient-centered care principles

 Expertise in emergency preparedness and incident management

 Excellent communication and conflict-resolution abilities

 Ability to work in high-stress, fast-paced healthcare environments

 Strong analytical, reporting, and risk-assessment skills

Working Conditions

 24/7 on-call availability for emergencies

 May involve walking, standing, and responding to critical incidents

 Exposure to high-risk or emotionally charged situations
