Chief Economist

ROLE OVERVIEW:

The Chief Economist is a strategic role responsible for guiding the organization’s economic research, policy development, and financial market analysis. This position plays a pivotal role in shaping regulatory and business strategies by providing expert insights into macroeconomic and microeconomic trends, financial risks, and policy impacts.

RESPONSIBILITIES & TASKS

Strategic Leadership:

• Lead the development and execution of the organization’s economic framework to guide investment strategy.
• Advise leadership and teams on economic implications of strategic decisions, regulatory changes, and market developments.
• Represent the organization in public forums, media, and industry panels.

Economic Analysis & Forecasting:

• Develop econometric models and forecasting tools to assess market trends and policy outcomes.
• Conduct impact assessments of fiscal, monetary, and regulatory policies.
• Monitor global economic indicators, geopolitical risks, and financial sector dynamics.

Policy Development & Advocacy:

• Provide thought leadership on economic policy and regulatory frameworks.
• Collaborate with government bodies, financial institutions, and academic entities.
• Prepare policy briefs, white papers, and strategic reports.

Stakeholder Engagement:

• Partner with investment teams, risk managers and client advisors to integrate economic views into business
• Foster cross-functional collaboration across various JM Financials’ businesses.
• Build and maintain relationships with external research & institutional clients and stakeholders.

Thought Leadership and Communications:

• Publish regular economic outlooks, white papers, and strategic insights for internal and external stakeholders.
• Represent the firm in client briefings, conferences, and media engagements.
• Collaborate with external economists, think tanks, and policy institutions.

EXPERIENCE

• 10+ years of experience in economic analysis, financial regulation, or strategic policy roles
• Proven track record in leading economic research and influencing high-level decision making
• Ability to translate complex economic concepts into actionable insights
• Past experience with broking or financial sector
• Experience with international economic frameworks and trade dynamics

KNOWLEDGE

• PHD or Masters' in Economics, Finance or related field with specialization in macroeconomics or financial economics
• Strong foundation in econometrics, macro & micro-economics and financial theory
• Expertise in economic modeling, forecasting, and regulatory analysis.
