Job Description

Job Summary: We are seeking a qualified and detail-oriented Chemist to perform chemical analysis and testing of construction materials including cement, concrete, soil, water, aggregates, and bitumen. The role is critical to ensuring compliance with national and international standards such as IS, ASTM, BS, or relevant specifications. Key Responsibilities: Conduct chemical testing of civil engineering materials including: Cement (loss on ignition, fineness, setting time, soundness, etc.) Water (pH, chlorides, sulphates, alkalinity, etc.) Aggregates (deleterious materials, specific gravity, etc.) Bitumen and bituminous products (penetration, softening point, ductility, etc.) Soil (pH, organic content, sulphate content, etc.) Prepare standard solutions and reagents for testing. Maintain accurate and detailed records of all test results and sample logs. Ensure that tests are carried out in accordance with ISO, ASTM, IS codes, or other applicable standards. Calibrate and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment regularly. Prepare test reports and assist in interpreting test data for engineering analysis. Ensure all safety protocols and laboratory best practices are followed. Assist in internal and external audits, and maintain documentation as per NABL or ISO/IEC 17025 standards (if applicable). Participate in R&D, material quality improvement, and investigation of material failures. Required Skills: Sound knowledge of chemical testing methods relevant to civil engineering materials. Familiarity with national and international testing standards (IS, ASTM, BS, AASHTO). Experience using lab instruments such as spectrophotometers, pH meters, ovens, balances, etc. Strong analytical and documentation skills. Knowledge of quality management systems (QMS) in laboratories. Ability to work independently and within a team environment. Preferred Qualifications: Experience in a NABL-accredited laboratory or construction material testing lab. Familiarity with LIMS (Laboratory Information Management Systems). Awareness of environmental and waste management practices. Work Environment: Lab-based work environment with occasional field sampling or inspection as needed. May involve exposure to chemicals and testing materials with required PPE.
