Capital Project Consultant

Role Overview

The Capital Projects Consultant will play a key role in supporting the planning, execution, monitoring, and control of large-scale capital projects, with a strong focus on schedule management, scope and progress tracking, reporting, and claims/Liquidated Damages (LD) management. The role requires hands-on experience working in metals and mining sector projects, especially aluminum smelters, and interacting across multidisciplinary project teams, EPC contractors, OEMs, and owners/operators.

Key Responsibilities

1. Project Planning & Scheduling

• Develop, update, and maintain project schedules using

  Microsoft Project

  (or Primavera if applicable).
• Establish and manage Work Breakdown Structures (WBS), activity sequences, critical paths, and resource-loaded schedules.
• Generate

  S-Curves

  and schedule performance dashboards for project leadership reviews.
• Conduct schedule risk reviews and recommend recovery actions when required.

2. Scope & Progress Quantity Management

• Define and manage quantity-based progress measurement systems aligned with project execution plans.
• Track actual vs. planned progress for engineering, procurement, and construction work packages.
• Validate contractor progress claims and measurement sheets.
• Ensure scope adherence and report deviations or change-order triggers.

3. Reporting (Daily, Weekly, Monthly)

• Prepare daily site progress reports capturing major activities, constraints, risks, and productivity status.
• Compile weekly project performance updates, including visuals such as S-curves, progress charts, and milestone tracking.
• Deliver monthly executive-level reports with key highlights, KPIs, cost/time variance insights, and key decision support metrics.
• Conduct review meetings and present status to internal and external project stakeholders.

4. LD & Claims Management

• Review contractual milestones and performance obligations to identify Liquidated Damages (LD) exposures.
• Analyze delays and disruptions to support or defend claims, extensions of time (EOT), and compensation entitlements.
• Work with project legal and contract teams to substantiate claims documentation and negotiation strategy.
• Maintain logs for claims, LD triggers, change orders, and contractual correspondence.

5. Stakeholder & Contractor Management

• Coordinate and align with contractors, subcontractors, OEM suppliers, and Owners/Operators teams.
• Facilitate site coordination meetings, conflict/resolution discussions, and performance reviews.
• Ensure compliance with project specifications, quality standards, HSE requirements, and governance frameworks.
• Act as a key liaison between contractor and owner teams to ensure smooth execution and reporting transparency.

Required Skills & Experience

• 7+ years

  of experience working on

  capital projects

  within

  metals & mining

  , preferably

  aluminum smelter, refinery, or associated industrial plant projects

  .
• Hands-on expertise in developing project schedules using

  Microsoft Project

  (Primavera P6 is an added advantage).
• Strong capability in generating

  S-Curves

  , progress quantity tracking, and productivity measurement.
• Demonstrated experience in

  LD and claims assessment

  , EOT justification development, and contract administration.
• Solid understanding of EPC workflows and multidisciplinary project execution environments.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and presentation skills.
• Strong analytical mindset with ability to convert field inputs into structured project performance insights.
• Proficient in MS Excel, PowerPoint, and project reporting tools.
