Book Editor (Poetry & Novel)

Role Overview:

As the Book Editor Intern, you will assist in the editing of poetry/novel manuscripts for publication. You will work with the author to ensure clarity, consistency of style, correct grammar/punctuation, formatting for print and/or e-book, and assist in the overall flow and presentation of the poems/novel.

Key Responsibilities:

• Proofread and copy-edit poetry/novel manuscripts: spot grammar/punctuation/spelling issues, check line breaks, stanza formatting, etc.
• Review manuscripts for clarity, consistency in tone/style, formatting of poems/novel (e.g., indentations, spacing, pagination).
• Assist with formatting manuscripts for print and/or e-book (Word/Pages/Google Docs and possibly InDesign or other layout tools if applicable).
• Help maintain editorial style-guides or formatting templates (for poetry layout).
• Coordinate with the production team to check proofs, track revisions, assist in preparing files for final publication.
• Perform basic administrative tasks relating to the editorial process: tracking revision history, managing version control, liaising with authors, meeting deadlines.
• Assist with research of poetry trends, author background, typography/layout ideas for the book, these may feed into design discussions.

Requirements / Skills Preferred:

• A strong command of English: excellent grammar, spelling, punctuation, and sensitivity to nuance in language.
• Good attention to detail: able to spot subtle issues in text, formatting and style.
• Interest in poetry, literature, creative writing or publishing. A familiarity with poetry structure (stanzas, line breaks, enjambment etc) is a plus.
• Comfortable working with Word/Google Docs (Track Changes) and good file management/version control habits.
• Ability to work to deadlines, manage multiple manuscripts/projects, take direction and show initiative.
• Good communication skills: able to liaise with author and clarify queries clearly.
• (Preferred but not mandatory) Basic knowledge of layout tools (e.g., InDesign or Scribus) or print/ebook production workflow.
• (Preferred) Currently studying or recently graduated in English, Literature, Creative Writing, Publishing, or related field.

Pay: ₹15,000.00 - ₹35,000.00 per month

Expected hours: 20 – 40 per week
