Job Title: Pastry Commis (Commis Pastry Chef)

Department: Pastry / Kitchen

Reports To: Pastry Chef / Sous Pastry Chef

Job Summary

The Pastry Commis assists the Pastry Chef and pastry team in the preparation, production, and presentation of desserts, breads, and baked goods. This entry-level position is responsible for maintaining high standards of food quality, hygiene, and kitchen organization while developing pastry skills in a professional kitchen environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in the preparation of pastries, desserts, cakes, breads, and other baked items
  
• Follow recipes, portion controls, and presentation standards as directed
  
• Prepare mise en place for daily pastry production
  
• Support senior pastry chefs during service and production
  
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the pastry section
  
• Ensure proper storage, labeling, and rotation of ingredients (FIFO)
  
• Comply with food safety, hygiene, and sanitation standards (HACCP)
  
• Clean equipment, utensils, and workstations after use
  
• Assist with inventory checks and ingredient preparation
  
• Learn and apply new pastry techniques under supervision
  

Skills & Qualifications

• Basic knowledge of pastry and baking techniques
  
• Culinary diploma or pastry training preferred (or currently enrolled)
  
• Willingness to learn and take direction
  
• Good time management and attention to detail
  
• Ability to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment
  
• Team player with a positive attitude
  
• Physical stamina to stand for long periods and lift kitchen equipment
  

Experience

• Previous kitchen or pastry experience preferred but not required
  
• Entry-level candidates with strong interest in pastry encouraged to apply
  

Working Conditions

• Early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays may be required
  
• Hot, busy kitchen environment
