Role Purpose

Key Responsibilities

1. Operations & Production

• Plan, organize, and control daily operations of the

  Coke Oven and CDQ system

  .
• Ensure achievement of production targets for

  coke output, CDQ steam generation, and quality parameters

  .
• Monitor and optimize oven pushing schedules, charging, and carbonization cycles.
  
• Coordinate with Blast Furnace / DRI for coke quality requirements (CSR, CRI, ash, moisture).
  
• Ensure optimum utilization of CDQ system for

  energy recovery and environmental compliance

  .

2. Process & Technology Management

• Drive

  process optimization and technology improvements

  in vertical non-recovery ovens.
• Monitor oven temperature profile, coking time, pushing index, and waste heat utilization.
  
• Implement process control systems to reduce

  fuel consumption, emission, and carbon footprint

  .
• Drive innovation in

  heat recovery and power generation from CDQ

  .

3. Maintenance Management

• Oversee preventive and predictive maintenance for Coke Oven batteries, pushing/charging cars, CDQ chambers, conveyors, and auxiliaries.
  
• Plan major shutdowns and refractory relining/repairs.
  
• Ensure availability of critical spares and AMCs for smooth operations.
  
• Coordinate with Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation teams for reliability improvement.
  

4. Safety, Environment & Compliance

• Ensure compliance with

  Factory Act, Pollution Control Board norms, and Coke Oven safety standards

  .
• Monitor fugitive emissions, stack emissions, and dust control.
  
• Implement

  SOPs for safe pushing, charging, and CDQ operations

  .
• Drive ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001 / ISO 45001 systems in Coke Oven & CDQ.
  
• Lead incident investigations, ensure LTI-free performance.
  

5. Cost & Energy Management

• Control operational costs through efficient coke yield and fuel utilization.
  
• Optimize

  energy recovery from CDQ and Waste Heat Boilers

  .
• Benchmark costs with industry best practices and drive continuous cost reduction initiatives.
  
• Monitor consumables (refractories, lubricants, power, water, etc.).
  

6. Manpower & Team Leadership

• Lead and develop a multidisciplinary team (Operations, Maintenance, Process, CDQ).
  
• Ensure

  shift-wise manpower planning, training, and skill development

  .
• Foster a culture of

  safety, accountability, and continuous improvement

  .
• Mentor Graduate Engineer Trainees (GETs) and young engineers for future leadership roles.
  

7. Cross-Functional Coordination

• Interface with

  Blast Furnace, DRI, Power Plant (CPP), Environment Cell, and Quality Assurance

  .
• Support projects, expansions, and modernization of Coke Oven & CDQ systems.
  
• Liaise with regulatory authorities for

  environment clearance, emission compliance, and statutory approvals

  .

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

• Coke production volume & quality (CSR, CRI, ash, VM, moisture).
  
• CDQ performance (steam generation, power recovery, energy efficiency).
  
• Plant availability & reliability (% uptime, MTBF, MTTR).
  
• Fuel consumption & cost per ton of coke.
  
• Compliance with safety & environmental norms.
  
• Manpower productivity & skill development.
  
• Implementation of process improvements / cost-saving projects.
  

Qualifications & Experience

• B.E./B.Tech in Metallurgy / Mechanical / Chemical / Electrical Engineering

  .
• Minimum

  1520 years of experience

  in Coke Oven operations & maintenance, including exposure to

  non-recovery ovens and CDQ systems

  .
• Hands-on experience in

  process optimization, refractory management, emission control, and energy recovery

  .
• Exposure to ERP (SAP), DCS/PLC control systems preferred.
