Area Sales Manager (General Trade) Chennai

Key Responsibilities Area Sales Manager (General Trade, Chennai)

1. Sales & Business Development:

  • Deliver monthly, quarterly, and annual sales targets for the Chennai territory.
  • Drive both

    primary sales

    and

    secondary sales

    to achieve business objectives.
  • Identify growth opportunities within Chennai's urban and suburban trade channels to expand market share.

2. Distribution & Channel Management:

  • Appoint, manage, and strengthen distributor partnerships to ensure comprehensive coverage across Chennai.
  • Monitor distributor ROI, stock levels, and order fulfillment efficiency.
  • Enhance numeric and weighted distribution across general trade outlets in the city.

3. Retail & Market Execution:

  • Ensure consistent product

    availability, visibility, and freshness

    across retail outlets in Chennai.
  • Implement trade schemes, point-of-sale materials, and promotional campaigns effectively.
  • Maintain retail merchandising standards and ensure accurate pricing in all outlets.

4. Team Leadership & Development:

  • Lead and develop Sales Officers / Territory Sales Executives operating in Chennai.
  • Provide hands-on training, market coaching, and continuous performance feedback.
  • Conduct regular

    market visits and joint working

    to ensure execution excellence.

5. Market Intelligence & Competition Tracking:

  • Monitor competitor presence, pricing, promotions, and market initiatives specific to Chennai.
  • Share actionable insights with senior leadership to refine sales strategies.

6. Reporting & Analysis:

  • Track daily/weekly/monthly sales performance for the Chennai region.
  • Prepare accurate MIS reports on forecasts, trade claims, and expense utilization.
  • Use data-driven insights to optimize route coverage and improve sales productivity.

7. Cross-functional Coordination:

  • Collaborate with logistics to ensure seamless product availability in Chennai markets.
  • Partner with trade marketing for execution of city-specific campaigns and promotions.
  • Work with finance and commercial teams for timely claim processing and credit management.

8. Compliance & Governance:

  • Ensure full adherence to company policies, compliance guidelines, and ethical standards.
  • Maintain trade hygiene, including proper claim settlements, credit controls, and documentation accuracy.
