We have been mandated by a large conglomerate into Iron and Steel business for the below mentioned role .

Position Title: Assistant Manager / Deputy Manager - Coke Oven Refractory

Location: Jamshedpur

Qualification : BE / B Tech Mechanical / Metallurgy / Ceramic

Experience: 5 + Yrs

Job Purpose:

Responsible for planning, monitoring, and executing all refractory maintenance, relining, repair, and inspection activities of Coke Oven Batteries to ensure optimal operation, maximum battery life, and compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards.

Key Responsibilities:

• Plan, schedule, and supervise daily refractory maintenance and repair activities in Coke Oven Batteries.
• Monitor refractory lining conditions, identify problem areas, and implement timely corrective actions.
• Supervise brickwork during oven rebuilding, patching, and hot/spot repairs.
• Coordinate with Operations, Mechanical, and Electrical teams to minimize downtime and ensure safe maintenance practices.
• Ensure effective execution of refractory relining projects procurement of bricks, consumables, and coordination with contractors/vendors.
• Carry out regular inspections and audits of battery walls, oven doors, stand pipes, and flue channels for refractory wear and tear.
• Maintain records of refractory consumption, lining life, and repair history for performance analysis.
• Ensure strict adherence to safety norms and SOPs during hot work and confined space operations.
• Train and guide refractory masons/workers for quality workmanship and safe work practices.
• Implement cost-effective maintenance practices to optimize refractory life and reduce breakdowns.
• Prepare budgets, spares planning, and liaise with procurement for timely material availability.
• Coordinate with OEMs/refractory suppliers for technical support and new refractory solutions.
• Key Skills & Competencies:
• In-depth knowledge of Coke Oven construction, refractory materials, and maintenance practices.
• Strong understanding of refractory bricklaying, relining techniques, and hot repair methods.
• Hands-on experience in troubleshooting Coke Oven refractory problems.
• Good team management and contractor handling skills.
• Familiarity with preventive and predictive maintenance tools and practices.
• Strong commitment to safety and environmental compliance.
• Good communication, coordination, and reporting skills.
