mechanical design

Job Summary

Advanced Mechanical Design, Structural Engineering, and Research & Development (R&D)

Key Responsibilities

I. Technical Leadership & Advanced Mechanical Design:

  • Act as the subject matter expert for the

    mechanical and structural design

of all CCM technologies, including Billet, Bloom, Beam-Blank, and Slab Casters.
  • Develop, implement, and continuously refine mechanical concepts,

    machine kinematics

    , design parameters,

structural layouts, and detailed 3D models.

  • Lead the design and simulation efforts (using FEA/CFD tools)

    focusing on

stress analysis, heat transfer, component fatigue

    , and

    structural integrity

    to ensure optimal

    design for manufacturing (DFM)

    and process stability.
  • Integrate mechanical design solutions with key CCM metallurgical processes

to optimize steel quality and casting efficiency.
  • Conduct internal and external technical evaluations and benchmarking of mechanical systems to ensure Electrotherm's CCM design solutions remain state-of-the-art.

II. Engineering Project & Documentation Management:

  • Direct and manage complex, multi-national

CCM mechanical design packages and Research & Development (R&D) projects.

  • Oversee the mechanical engineering workflow, coordinate with procurement and manufacturing teams, and manage external design consultants to ensure strict adherence to

mechanical design specifications, tolerance standards, and budget.

  • Lead the creation, review, and finalization of detailed

engineering drawings (GA, Assembly, and Detail drawings),

specifications, bill of materials (BOM), and complete documentation packages for fabrication.

III. Design Review & Technical Sales Support:

  • Provide advanced technical consultation and

    design validation support

for complex customer mechanical customization requests (e.g., changes in mold structure, frame design, or machine height).
  • Collaborate closely with Sales and Marketing teams, offering high-level technical backing for tender submissions focused on

mechanical design advantages, machine reliability, and structural capacity.

  • Proactively manage the technical aspects of client relationships related to machine design, ensuring mechanical specifications meet functional requirements and identifying opportunities for

innovative structural and component design solutions.

IV. Team & System Development:

  • Lead, mentor, and train

mechanical design, R&D, and detailed engineering staff

in best practices for CCM component design, engineering standards, and quality assurance.
  • Implement and champion best practices for

design standardization, modularization, and value engineering

to optimize cost and component durability and reduce fabrication complexity.

Educational Qualification

  • B.E./B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering

is mandatory. A post-graduate degree (M.E./M.Tech.) or a degree in a similar discipline like

    Metallurgical Engineering

, combined with relevant industrial experience, will be highly valued.

Required Skills & Experience

Mandatory Technical Skills:

  • Minimum 15+ years

    of progressive experience in the

Continuous Casting (CCM) sector of the Steel Industry

, with a primary focus on the

Advanced Mechanical Design, Structural Engineering, and R&D/Simulation

    of heavy machinery.
  • Extensive, practical experience with the

advanced mechanical, structural, and kinematic design

aspects of various CCM types (e.g., Mold, Oscillator, Guide Apron, Withdrawal/Straightener Unit).
  • Proven expertise in

    designing

the functional, heavy-duty mechanical components of the CCM and executing

    tolerance stack-up analysis

    and component integration.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in

Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Structural Analysis, and/or Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)

relevant to mold, structure, and roller design and longevity.

Mandatory Leadership & Project Skills:

  • Strong track record of successfully managing and leading multi-disciplinary

    mechanical design and R&D

    teams in an engineering-intensive environment.
  • Exceptional communication (written and verbal) and presentation skills, capable of engaging both technical teams and senior client management on

mechanical design concepts, structural feasibility, and detailed engineering plans.

  • Proven ability to work in a high-intensity, results-oriented, techno-commercial role, linking

    advanced mechanical design

to manufacturing standards and cost targets.
  • Willingness and ability to travel internationally (as required) for

design reviews, supplier evaluations, or critical technical meetings.
