Position Overview
We are seeking a visionary and technically accomplished Additive Manufacturing and Reality Import Architect to lead the digital transformation of physical assets into intelligent, cloud-native digital twins. This role is pivotal in shaping the future of our engineering and industrial operations by integrating advanced additive manufacturing (AM), 3D scanning, and digital twin technologies into a unified, scalable ecosystem.
The ideal candidate will bring deep domain expertise, strategic foresight, and hands-on leadership to architect and operationalize cutting-edge solutions that bridge the physical and digital worlds.
Key Responsibilities
Technology Leadership & Architecture
- Architect and govern the integration of Additive Manufacturing and Reality Capture technologies across enterprise platforms.
- Define and enforce architectural standards for digital asset creation, storage, and lifecycle management.
- Lead the design and deployment of AM systems including hardware, software, connectivity, and remote monitoring.
Digital Asset & Twin Management
- Establish and maintain a secure, cloud-based inventory of digital twins and 3D-scanned assets.
- Oversee the ingestion, processing, and contextualization of reality capture data into usable digital formats.
Strategic Planning & Governance
- Develop and maintain domain-level roadmaps, innovation pipelines, and resource plans aligned with business objectives.
- Own KPIs, risk registers, and dependency maps for AM and Reality Import initiatives.
Innovation & R&D
- Drive research and prototyping of emerging technologies in additive manufacturing, 3D scanning, and digital twins.
- Evaluate and recommend adoption strategies for new tools, platforms, and methodologies.
Systems Integration & Security
- Ensure seamless integration with cloud platforms, IoT frameworks, edge computing, and cybersecurity protocols.
- Collaborate with enterprise architects to align with broader digital infrastructure and compliance standards.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Engineering, Industrialization, Services, and Signalling teams to ensure alignment with operational needs.
- Translate business requirements into scalable, technical solutions that drive measurable value.
Project & Program Execution
- Lead end-to-end delivery of AM and Reality Import projectsfrom concept through deployment and optimization.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, agile delivery, and technical excellence.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of progressive experience in Additive Manufacturing, 3D Scanning, and Digital Twin technologies.
- Proven track record in Railways (preferred) or other heavy industries such as Aerospace, Automotive, Shipbuilding, or Heavy Machinery.
- Deep expertise in 3D printing ecosystems, including CAD/CAM software, slicing tools, and printer hardware.
- Advanced knowledge of 3D scanning technologies (e.g., laser scanners, structured light, photogrammetry) and reverse engineering workflows.
- Strong experience with cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS), IoT integration, and network/cybersecurity fundamentals.
- Demonstrated ability to lead large-scale technical programs and cross-functional teams.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and leadership skills.
Preferred Skill.
- Cyber-Physical Systems: Designing secure, connected AM environments with IoT, edge computing, and cloud orchestration.
- End-to-End AM Ecosystem Mastery: Deep understanding of AM processes (metal/polymer), materials science, and post-processing.
- Platform Integration: Expertise in integrating AM with enterprise IT systems (ERP, PLM, CAD/CAM, simulation).
- Familiarity with PLM systems, digital thread concepts, and enterprise architecture frameworks
- Data Processing Software - Proficiency in software for processing point cloud data, such as meshing, filtering, and noise reduction.
- CAD Software - Familiarity with CAD software for creating and modifying 3D models.
- Geometry and Mathematics -Strong mathematical skills, particularly in geometry, trigonometry, and calculus, to analyse and manipulate 3D data accurately.
- 3D Scanning Technology - A deep understanding of various 3D scanning techniques, such as laser scanning, structured light scanning, and photogrammetry, is essential. Proficiency in operating and calibrating scanning equipment is crucial.
- Point Cloud Processing- Proficiency in software tools like Autodesk Recap, FARO Scene, or similar software to process and manipulate point cloud data efficiently.
