Company Description

Sthyr Energy Private Limited, a startup initiated at IIT Madras, is pioneering grid-scale energy storage for renewable power through zinc-air batteries as long-duration energy storage systems. Founded by Gunjan Kapadia, Akhil Kongara, and Muhammed Hamdan, all PhD holders from IIT Madras, the company has developed multiple patents with the aim to reduce solar and wind energy curtailment. With Professor Aravind Kumar Chandiran as the technology advisor and Mr. Shaaji John as the market advisor, Sthyr Energy develops modular energy storage solutions that are scalable up to GWh. Their indigenously developed, low-cost, and safe zinc-air battery modules help drive sustainability and reduce carbon emissions for a greener future.


Role Description

Three job roles are currently open.


  1. Zinc-electrodeposition

The role involves developing and optimizing zinc electrodeposition processes, solve dendrite formation and hydrogen evolution issues using electrolyte additives, and contributing to the scale-up of production.


2. GDE development

The candidate will be involved in GDE (Gas Diffusion Electrodes) development, exploring alternate ORR catalysts, and testing. Good knowledge in electrochemistry, and batteries with hands on research experience is expected. Ensuring seamless project execution and contributing to innovative solutions for energy storage systems will be part of the daily tasks.


3. Anode engineering and micro-filteration development

The role involves development of filteration process for seperating zinc oxide from the electrolyte during the battery discharge. Candidate should understand the process requirements and communicate with filter designers/manufacturers to find the right solution. Battery discharge experiments to understand the zinc anode performance.

Qualifications

  • Strong Communication skills
  • Relevant experience in energy storage systems and electrochemical processes
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Have conducted electrochemistry based research
  • Previous experience in a similar role is a plus
