Hiring for L1 Windows Migration Engineer position, Please find the job description below: Years of Experience 3 to 5 years Location Chennai, Bangalore & Coimbatore Shift Rotational (24/7 coverage 3 shifts) Role Summary: Windows Migration Engineer L1 will assist in performing server migration activities and post-migration validation tasks as part of a structured factory model. The role requires working knowledge of Windows Server environments, basic infrastructure operations, and the ability to follow cutover runbooks during live events under the guidance of senior engineers. Skills Summary: Experience with Windows Server 2012/2016/2019/2022 Familiarity with Active Directory domain join and OU movement Basic understanding of Group Policies and login script behavior Ability to run and validate PowerShell or batch scripts (execution only) Knowledge of firewall status, antivirus agents (e.g., Defender, Symantec) Familiar with reading Windows Event Viewer logs for basic troubleshooting Awareness of Windows clustering and ability to validate pre/post cluster status Basic experience working with VMware guest OS (tools status, IP config, reboots) Understanding of patch verification and SCCM/WSUS client behavior Exposure to migration tools like HCX or Zerto (hands-on not required, but familiarity is expected) Awareness of database connectivity testing (MSSQL) during migration validation Familiar with disk management, NIC properties, and hostname/IP/DNS verification Responsibilities: Participate in scheduled server migrations and pre-/post-validation activities Support configuration of hostnames, IP, DNS, NTP, and domain/realm join Perform disk layout validation, partitioning, and logical volume checks Configure Windows Clusters as per runbook Execute server migrations as per SOP and wave plan. Perform snapshots, backup validation, and AV disable/enable as needed Collaborate with app and infra teams during Hypercare (up to 2 hrs/server) Escalate OS, application, or storage-level issues per SOP. This role requires deep hands-on expertise in Windows server infrastructure, validation, and issue resolution during live cutover events. Skills Summary: Expertise in Windows Server 2012 R2/2016/2019/2022 Cluster Management (Windows Failover Cluster, shared disks, heartbeat monitoring) Familiarity with HCX, Zerto migration tools VM template handling and guest OS customization via vSphere Familiarity with FT (Fault Tolerance) and RDMs in vSphere environments Active Directory/LDAP join validation, GPO inheritance, OU policies Firewall, antivirus, and system hardening checks Database awareness (MSSQL) to help triage connectivity or service dependencies during migration Hands-on with PowerShell for troubleshooting and scripting (GPO, firewall, services) Windows Group Policies, login scripts, roaming profiles Event log analysis and service failure remediation Antivirus agent management and log validation (Defender, Symantec, Trend Micro etc.) SCCM/WSUS client troubleshooting Disk management, network adapters, firewall rule validation Experience in troubleshooting basic VMware issues related to Virtual Machines. Responsibilities: Lead migration wave execution for Windows workloads Ensure domain join, AD registration, DNS, IP settings, and OU policies are properly configured Troubleshoot AD join failures, GPO misalignments, AV agent malfunctions Support and coach junior engineers during cutover sprints Validate logs, services, AV compliance, and patch levels post-migration Collaborate with app and infrastructure teams during Hypercare testing Perform rollback or failback procedures if required Maintain escalation logs and wave completion status Review and update migration runbooks for future reuse
