Job Description

As the Waterfront Manager at Cal Poly Maritime Academy, you will report directly to the Captain of the Training Ship (COTS) and Director of Marine Programs. Your main responsibilities will include managing and providing oversight for the maintenance, repair, and operations of the boathouse, pier, shop, marina, various vessels, and equipment associated with the waterfront. Additionally, you will provide vessel support for the academic departments, support departmental budget management, and prepare detailed proposals for upgrades to vessels and associated equipment. You will also liaise with the Captain of the Training Ship and Training Ship managers to provide shoreside support for the Training Ship and carry out policies and programs of the Office of Marine Programs related to waterfront operations. Key Responsibilities: - Manage and provide oversight for the maintenance, repair, and operations of the waterfront facilities - Provide vessel support for academic departments - Support departmental budget management and prepare detailed proposals for vessel and equipment upgrades - Liaise with Training Ship managers to provide shoreside support - Implement policies and programs of the Office of Marine Programs related to waterfront operations Qualifications Required: - Experience in maintenance and troubleshooting of mechanical systems and equipment - Excellent organizational and management skills - Ability to prioritize tasks for staff and student assistants using database management tools - Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint - Knowledge of US regulatory requirements for vessel safety and operations management during ship mooring - Strong writing and communication skills - Knowledge of US and International regulatory requirements for vessel equipment Education and Experience: - High school diploma or GED plus vocational training - Five years of experience managing a fleet of small to mid-sized vessels - Captains License Merchant Mariner Credential with limited 50 tonnage endorsement (must obtain within one year of hire) - TWIC, USCG Medical certification, and California Drivers License - Bachelor's Degree (preferred) - Ten or more years of experience managing a fleet of small to mid-sized vessels (preferred) In addition to a competitive salary range of $112,000 - $130,000 per year, Cal Poly offers a comprehensive benefits program including health, dental, and vision insurance, retirement participation in the Public Employees" Retirement System, and educational benefits for eligible employees.
