Vice President Engineering

Key Responsibilities:

1. Architecture & Platform Engineering

• Lead the architecture and design of high-throughput, low-latency payment systems (UPI, cards, PG, POS).
• Build and scale distributed platforms capable of handling millions of TPS with sub-second latency.
• Oversee microservices architecture, event-driven systems, streaming pipelines, and API-first platforms.
• Drive adoption of modern engineering patterns: CQRS, event sourcing, zero-downtime deployments, canary releases.
• Lead tokenization, encryption, cryptography workflows for secure payments.

2. Deep Technical Leadership

• Guide engineering teams on core system internals, concurrency, memory optimization, container orchestration, and performance tuning.
• Champion engineering standards, code quality, CI/CD automation, and observability (tracing, metrics, alerting).
• Mentor senior engineering managers, architects, and deep-tech specialists.

3. Payments Expertise

• Strong familiarity with NPCI and RBI specifications: UPI, FASTag, RuPay, NCMC.
• Understanding of card lifecycle systems: switching, issuing, acquiring, authorisation, settlement, chargeback, dispute management.
• Expertise in risk engines, fraud analytics, FTS, token vaults, and transaction security.

4. Regulatory, Security & Compliance

• Ensure compliance with PCI DSS, DPDPA, RBI cybersecurity guidelines, tokenization mandates, KYC/AML norms.
• Drive zero-trust, secure coding, vulnerability management, and cryptographic key management (HSM).
• Partner with security and audit teams for regulatory certifications, DR drills, and compliance readiness.

5. Innovation & Emerging Tech

• Evaluate and implement AI/ML for fraud detection, scoring, anomaly detection, and operational automation.
• Explore blockchain/tokenization use cases relevant to payments and identity.
• Drive innovation sprints, PoCs, and deep-tech research initiatives.

6. Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement

• Translate business goals into robust engineering execution and technology roadmaps.
• Collaborate with product, risk, operations, NPCI/RBI-facing teams, and external partners.
• Present technology strategy, architecture rationale, and platform readiness to CXOs and board committees.

Qualifications and Skills:

• Programming: Go, Java/Spring, C++, Python, Node.js, Angular, React, Flutter (hands-on familiarity expected).
• Distributed Systems: Kafka, Redis, Cassandra, Elastic, GRPC, service mesh.
• Cloud & DevOps: AWS/GCP/Azure, Kubernetes, Terraform, SRE principles.
• Performance Engineering: High TPS transaction systems, caching layers, load shedding, circuit breakers.
• Data Infrastructure: Real-time streaming, batch pipelines, reconciliation engines, ledger systems.
