Veterinary Surgeon – Poultry/Goatry

Location: Jharkhand, India

Full-Time | On-Site | NGO/Rural Development Sector

Qualification: BVSc / MVSc or higher

Experience: 3–4 Years in Poultry or Goatry Health Management

About the Role

Veterinary Surgeon

The ideal candidate is a veterinary professional with a passion for grassroots development, capable of designing and delivering high-impact animal health services across village-level clusters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide preventive, diagnostic, and curative veterinary services for poultry and goatry units in field locations.
  • Organize and conduct animal health camps, vaccination drives, and deworming programs.
  • Build the capacity of field staff, para-vets, and local community resource persons in livestock health and management practices.
  • Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for animal health and biosecurity at the community level.
  • Conduct periodic monitoring and reporting of disease outbreaks, mortality, and treatment outcomes.
  • Collaborate with government veterinary departments, KVKs, and technical institutions for effective convergence.
  • Support the planning and execution of community-based breed improvement and backyard livestock models.
  • Document case studies, field reports, and impact assessments to support program evaluation.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • BVSc or MVSc (preferably in Medicine, Surgery, or Animal Production).
  • Minimum 3–4 years of relevant field experience in poultry or goat health, preferably in rural or semi-urban settings.
  • Strong understanding of veterinary protocols for disease prevention, vaccination, and nutritional management.
  • Prior experience with NGOs, government livestock programs, or community-based animal husbandry projects is highly desirable.
  • Strong communication skills in Hindi; knowledge of tribal languages of Jharkhand is an advantage.
  • Comfortable with field-based roles and frequent travel to remote areas.

  • Commitment to working in the development sector with underserved populations.
  • Strong field orientation, ability to work independently and collaboratively with rural communities.
  • Good documentation and reporting skills.
  • Familiarity with livestock value chains, FPOs, or rural enterprise models is a plus.
